anyone test drive 2002 nissan sentra se-r?

hi all,

my girlfriend is looking for a new car. she doesnt want to get a civic (even though she likes my car) just in case we're in it for the long haul. we couldn't decide if it would be cute or corny if we both owned civics, so we figured, play it safe, get a different car.

now, since i'm a domestic snob (hehehe!) i'm steering her away from the usual characters (sunfire/cavalier, neon, saturn, ...). she likes the jetta, but i've heard some not so reassuring things about its track record.

i've suggested that mebbe she should look into the protege sedan or protege5, or perhaps the sentra. i've driven the protege (not the protege5 however) and i've seen lots written about the new sentra, but i havent heard from anyone who has actually taken it for a spin.

any comments?

go for the protege, or if you can find one an MP3.

The 2k2 SE-R has not been so impressive, reliablility and performance wise.

The SE-R did not impress me on my test drive. I have to agree with Neo on this one: I kinda like the MP3 in that range....or even the Si(if you can find it for MSRP)

I test drove my friends Sentra and I drooled over the amount of wheel spinning torque it had. Nice amount of power for the price, decent amount of parts(buddy plans on adding a supercharger that jumps it to 255 hp like the 3.5), & a so- so red interior make this car. If you haven't driven one go try tomorrow!!

the Madza Maxspeed(just an MP3 with turbo) is going to come out soon. You should wait for that!

it really depend on what she's looking for and what her budget is...spec v will give you the best bang for the buck, i don't think there's any other cars in that segment can compete with what the spec v has to offer, as far as reliability is concerned, it's a first year model, so there has been reports of people having minor problems with the car, but the majority of the owners are very satisfied with the car...i don't know much abotu mazda, my friend test drove a mp3 when it came out, it has a wicked suspension i was told, but it's severly under powered though (140 hp?)...it sounds like you are looking for something in the 16 -- 20k range, what about celica gt or a base rsx? i guess the best way for you to find out is go test drive both cars and decide for yourself...

That car is estimated at 27-29k Canadian.. a little pricey IMO. And it's a limited one , u'll have to order it early
since it's release is a few months away.

Tell her to go check out the cabriolet. It's a nice girls car, good looks and sporty and has decent power. Protoge 5 is a good choice also.

From what i can remember of the SE-R's specs, 170hp from a 2.5L I4 engine....that's GOOD.

I walked into a Nissan dealership, and my friend test drove it. We had a beautiful looking sales lady...

In order to simulate 'load' under the car, we jacked the AC all the way up to FULL BLAST, and OMG, that car can TAKE it. The ONLY thing I didn't like about the car was the amount of legroom in the back (TERRIBLE compared to my EL!), and and no ABS standard...

That car can MOVE. Compare that car to a Civic? Forget it. That car FEELS solid. My car floats like a duck in water (stock suspension), and that car really stuck to the road. Honestly, comparing a Civic (stock) sedan to a SE-R is like comparing a Neon to a Civic Si. Just can't compare....

For it's price, it's great. The touch and feelie's in the car are a tad bland and plastic, but HELL, the doors are even better than the Civic's! You shut it, and you get a nice solid feeling. Close a Civic's windows, and the whole door just sucks inwards. CHEAP.

the part about leg room in the back is definitely true, i think even my girl friend's civic has more leg room than my car...

Spev V all the way, my little brother gets one this summer. For the price 16k, it is the best car out there. We all (me, brother, mom) got to drive it like twice....the thing is awsome. It is up there in terms of power and speed with my mom's 01 325Ci (5spd coupe)!! The thing is a great starter car for a kid who wants to get into imports. Girls might prefer the whole wagon thing of the mazda, but I dunno its all about personal prefernce.
