the first number is the treadwidth of the tire in mm (195 means the tire is 195 mm wide)
The second number is the sidewall height, as a ratio compared to the treadwidth (50 means the sidewall is 50% of the treadwidth, or 97.5mm)
the last number is the inner diameter of the tire, really it's what size rim it'll fit on (r15 is a 15" rim)
When I shop for tires, I try and choose the same overall diameter, so it doesn't mess with my speedometer as much.
