Oil life question

2007 Civic LX

What gives? I had the oil changed in January (full synthetic) at 30,900 miles. Now it is June and 36,500 miles. So it has been 5 months and 5600 miles, but the oil life indicates that my oil life is at 40%. Does that seem right? I thought that the car could not tell the difference between regular and synthetic oil (for calculation purposes) and that oil change was at 5000 miles?

Re: Oil life question

that seems about right. im not sure how the new calculator works, but the 5k is only for conventional. also i think it takes into account your driving style but im not sure on that. youre good waiting couple more months.

Re: Oil life question

Keep in mind that the display is not accurate .... 40% life could be 49.99% to 40.00% .
Suddenly the next time you start the car it could be down to 30%. It is just the way they programmed the output to display the numbers.

Re: Oil life question

The indicator actually measures engine revolutions. The more cold idling the sooner you'll replace the oil. It doesn't tell the difference in the oil itself or have moisture sensors.

Wish I could find that source document but it was from Honda's web site.
