Oil drip after oil change? Fram filter?

This is my first post and I just bought a 99 Civic LX. The first thing I did when I brought it home was change the oil and filter. The old filter that came off was a genuine Honda filter with number 9011 on it. The filter that I picked up to install was a Fram Tough Guard 3593A, which is what the book at autozone said. I just got the feeling like it was the wrong filter and it looks much wider in diameter than the honda one. My dad has a 05 Honda Pilot and it takes Fram 7317, which looks identical to the Honda 9011 that I took off. Today I noticed the bottom of my oil pan was wet as well as the area around the drain bolt. Now I also can't remember if I put the washer on the plug or not. I cleaned everything off with brake cleaner and I'll wait a day and see if it happens again. I am hoping the oil was just run off from the filter change. I also want to verify I have the correct oil filter. Anyone have any opinions? Thanks

That washer is VERY important. It will most likely leak out of the drain bolt if you did not put it there. You should use the filter designed for your car. I don't know Fram's numbers off by heart but I suggest you get the right one. Or, if your in Canada get Napa's filter which far surpasses the quality of Fram.

Either way, it's not a major issue so just fix it up when u get a chance. Your technically supposed to replace that washer every oil change, though if it looks good I just put the old one back on. 140, 000km and I've only had to replace it once because someone (me) overtightened the plug.

Thanks. I will stop at the Honda dealer today and pickup a washer, new drain plug and a Honda oil filter. That way I know it will be done right.

Yea, kinda sucks you have to change the oil again but it won't be so bad for it.

id say never get fram again. they are complete crap. they charge more for a filter when it is the same as the other cheaper filter. The honda oem one was probably a better filter. there is a thread somewhere on here that shows a cut out of the filter to see inside.

I like fram just because of the grip on it haha. But make sure the old gasket comes off when you change the filter, two gaskets=leaks

Re: Oil drip after oil change? Fram filter?

Givr. Someone did a lot of research on this and figured out what the best filter was. Search the forum it's on here somewhere I just can't remember what it was. I use the Napa filter ( here in Canada ). It's made locally and has been tested, its one of the better filters but I don't know if it's available in US. Cheap too I think it's only 6 dollars. (Bout time we have something you don't!)

I looked at the Fram site and the filter Part Number TG3593A is correct.
