2001 civic makes 2 -3 clunk sounds when moving from stationary

2001 honda civic (2001 - 2005)30k done makes 2 -3 clunk sounds when moving from stationary in 1st and 2nd gear?

2 -3 clunks only when i move from stationary, no clunk in reverse gear. clunks are louder when i am on a steep surface and release the clutch to move forward. after 2 -3 clunks as i shift into 2nd gear i may hear 1 or 2 faint clunks but no clunk after that at higher speeds.

further, there are no clunks if the car moves forward in neutral. i took the drivers tyre off and inspected the control arm and other joints . i couldn't find any broken rubber bush. i have not checked the engine mounts. could that be the problem? i have also inspected the rubber axil boots they are fine no leaks what so ever.

any help would be appreciated.

i have the same sounds with my 2001 civic. i had the front motor mount fixed, but that didnt totally solve the problem. but if i get a perfect smooth start from first, i dont hear the noise.

yup sounds like the front transmission mount to me. Its pretty common. Take a look and inspect it. If it tuns out to be it, i have one for sale cheap. in the for sale section.
