Stupid hood latch.

The hood latch on my car is weird. Before I modified it, I had it as low as possible and the hood still didn't line up with the body, it was too high. So I dremeled the slots for the 3 screws so that the latch goes even lower. That worked for about 1 year, but now all of a sudden the hood isn't lining up again despite being in the exact same spot. So I dremeled I elongated the screw holes again, and it's fine. I don't notice anything wrong with the mechanism. Everything locks up like it should.

Do you guys have any problems with the hood latches? Mine is made in Canada by Honda. I'm thinking this particular hood latch isn't right. The hood rides too high despite my mod. I noticed on majestic honda that the 99-00's have a new type of latch. It sells for 20 dollars, while the 96-00 have two choices sold by two japanese manufacturers. They go for 33 dollars each.

Re: Stupid hood latch.

i can never get mine aligned properly. and even worse, one side is higher than the other. so i just set it so it sits tight otherwise it would rattle like crazy. i have two rubber stoppers i can turn but it doesnt help much except to make the hood sit tight i guess.

Mine rattles too, eventually. Maybe this time it won't. And yeah, the left side of my hood is higher than my right. There is nothing wrong with the hood itself though. I have two rubber stoppers on there too, I wonder if mine turn. I never though about it.

Re: Stupid hood latch.

Well I found out why the hood latch kept going down. Turns out it wasn't the hood latch at all, but the bloody front-mid jack point bending the firewall upward! Every time I used the official jack point, it would bend the front bumper upwards, but only the center portion where the latch is. So when I looked at the car directly, I noticed it was humped where the latch is. I discovered this because when I raised my car today with the jack, my hood was still on. I noticed the left and right side of the hood was past the body of the car again. Wtf? Not this again! I lowered the car and sure enough, the jack point was the culprit.

I fixed the whole thing by putting wood under both sides of the front left/right jack points. This prevents the shocks from working. I jumped on top of the latch area of the firewall with my sister and bent it down again. I eyed it to make sure it was level with the engine. Certain things should be level, like the radiator cap et cetera. All good. I put the hood down and it locked better than ever. It was still high on the right side a bit. Then I remembered about those rubber adjustments. I twisted them and got them lined up perfectly. Fabulous. And it will last this time.

I wonder if yours has the same problem. If so, it would explain why your rubber stopers aren't working as they should.
