So I ran into a guy while I was working and we got to debating as to what was the best engine to build from the ground up (restricted to all motor applications) and we based it on hp, tq, availability of parts, reliability and ease of modding. We kept it to strictly B and H series since the K is hands down the best NA platform in my humble opinion. So I wanted to see what other people out there in the civicforums world thought. I'd prefer to have people that ACTUALLY worked on them to input. Poll your answer and post why you said so.
Guidelines are:
reliability
max hp potential
max torque potential
cost to build
ease to build
availability of parts

nah not for an all motor build. they max out at something like 150? I knew this guy MimikSi on another forum who built an all motor D16zC with EVERYTHING and i mean EVERYTHING stage 3 cams thinnest head gasket your imagination could possibly deal with a milled head and over sized EVERYTHING, the works, and I beleive he maxed at 140 whp with driveability issues. Thats a stock Si. As far as turboing a D series sure, but this is an all motor poll

Re: Wanted to see what other builders thought
yeah i didnt put the K because hands down its the best platform to use for all motor builds hands down... but the price still makes it an unreasonable build for < 7th Gen simply because the engine alone is 3-4 grand + labor for the swap and for that you can build a bulletproof b20vtec so yeah. Otherwise the K series is the ****.
Re: Wanted to see what other builders thought
this is going in your 7th gen? if so k series is the only way. otherwise i would say an h22 has the highest potential out of all the motors to be "fast" with the least amount of money spent. h22 has a weak stock bottom end but since your building it (im assuming?) with a beefier bottom the h22 is the way to go.
good:
"no replacement for displacement"
the h22 head flows real well for stock
bad:
h22 tranny sucks (can be compensated with a b16 tranny adapter plate)
aka "H2B"
imho h2b > all except for k series

Re: Wanted to see what other builders thought
its not cuz im building it, im working on a b16 that i will eventually boost or go b20 with but i just wanted to see what other people felt out of morbid curiosity. I always stayed away from the h22 because of the carbon lined cylinder walls

h22 too heavy? 35 pounds is nothing when you weigh out the advantage and disadvantage of the setups. taking out your spare will solve the problem. http://www.honda-tech.com/showthread.php?t=684550

Re: Wanted to see what other builders thought
35 makes a big difference in forza motorsport 2 haha
in all seriousness tho
those 35lbs are also in the front, not just in the car. weight distribution plays in, depending on what kinda applications your car will be seeing...
i took out my airbags and i felt the car a bit more responsive. Could have been psychosimatic (sp?) then when i took out the spare tire, and stripped about 15-18lbs off the engine it knew it was much more responsive.
