I'm currently attempting to purchase a 1987 Civic hatchback, and I would like to hear it run. However, a short developed in the wiring connected to the bottom of the three fuseable links under the hood. Could anyone tell me what is connected to that fuse and/or how to maybe bypass the majority of the systems or where the short is probably located so that we can get it started?

The fuses are under the hood, under a cover on the passenger side. They look like three flat pieces of metal.

Could it be the alternator?

Any help would be greatly appreciated. =)
