95 Civic EX Owner Newb starting problem and Advice
95 Civic EX Owner Newb starting problem and Advice
Recently I just inherited a 1995 honda civic ex sedan. I had to some minor things to get it up and running (battery, fluids, filter, etc). I really don't know a whole lot about these cars but since I have been driving it is hard to start, almost like its either flooded or it isn't getting enough gas. But once I get it to start it runs like a champ. Especially for a car with 182,000 miles on it. Has anyone else have this problem? It acts like a leaky injector? Any more advice? It also looks like I may have to replace either a valve cover gasket or head gasket with some evidence of oil on top of the motor, its hard tell since sometimes I smell it since it leaks on the manifold.
One other question, do you have to pull the valve cover to change the spark plugs?
Thanks
Fred

spark plugs are easy, you just need a long socket expension to reach inside. all you remove are the plug wires. you may want to check the distributor cap and rotor, and get new plug wires and plugs.

Bro if you have a cracked head gasket you mines well replace the motor because you will run into many more problems down the road. Ive blown two head gaskets on two high mileaged cars. Trust me better off saving up for a new motor if your looking for JDM or performance motors look around online for reliable dealers and they should have some good deal. Even check craigslist. Just make sure if your buying off of there that the parts arent hot.....

I am also new and had similar problem. First try making sure all the electrical parts on your starter is tightly attached. go to the starter and push on all attachments. then try starting. Thats all i did after my mechanic told about getting a new starter and my second opinion said repair the starter and all that was wrong was a wire cap came loose.
