Dash Lights: Cruise Ctrl, Pwr Mirror & Moonroof switches

I know a few members were inquiring on changing the color on the switches for the moonroof, cruise control & Power mirrors...so this weekend I was able to remove the panel and the switches & discovered that it is an orange LED. No filters. I am now so disappointed..

I thought this may help those of you who were interested.

You could probably go to Radio Shack and ask them if they have replacement bulbs. I'm sure they would have them.

I'm sure they do...but I don't feel comfortable messing with that...considering I'm a girl.

i've got an 2k1 LX, so i don't know about the sunroof switch, but the cruise and mirror switches are illuminated by small (LED-size) BULBS. they have those "condom" things on them (mine were blue, coupes should be orange) which you can peel off with tweezers or a knife. i made mine red; i took a red translucent plastic folder and cut some small pieces out to fit inside the switch... worked perfectly in mine. good luck!

btw, the only LEDs on the dash are the on/off indicators for the AC, defrost, and recirculate switches; the driver's window switch; and the red and orange indicators in the gauge cluster (seat belt, brake, etc.) everything else uses a bulb.

I've already changed the center lights surrounding the hu to blue w/ transparent blue sheets. However, the switches to the left don't have white bulbs...they're orange. I tried putting the blue sheet it in anyway and all it did was dim it.

are you 100% SURE its an orange bulb? i can't see why they would use an orange bulb in the coupe vs. a white bulb with a colored condom in the sedan... i would think that they use the same bulbs, just different condoms. just take it out and try peeling around the base of the bulb... the condoms fit pretty snugly...

lol.. i said "condom" 3 times... are we still talking about cars?!

LOL...back to the bulbs. I'm 100+% positive. I took all three switches apart, plus I put a blue sheet in there to see what it would look like and it just dimmed it. Makes me mad the sedan has the blue.

i took it apart as well and was sad to see it was an ornage bulb and not a filter. Actually it could be a bulb "covered" with an orange cover. Even so, the moonroof button i cant get apart to a point where i could put a colored paper in. U can unscrew the bulb but i cant get the face off to see if i could fit paper. The other 2 buttons i can possibly see where u could fit paper. Im gonna take the bulb to R-Shack and see whats up but these r some helluva small bulbs. Alrdy broke one $hit!!

is it a bulb with a cover on it? if it has a cover then the bulb is VERY small cause the cover makes most of the bulb lol

is it a bulb or an led?
led have dual package...hence you get one or the other or both...
go find some led manufacturers and ask for a dozen samples of whatever color leds they have...they usually have...blue, orange, red, green, yellow, white...i think thats it...

Somebody take one to Radio shack. Figure out what size LED. It is.

Does anyone know about the gauge cluster ones. Are they bulbs or LED's?

I have black and red interior, and the f*cking orange $hit everywhere is disgusting.

I have no idea about the guages. I bought apc speedglos.

Back to the switches...I took all three apart including the moonroof switch and they all have orange bulbs but no filter. However, if we could get a white bulb at least there would be a way to fit a filter. I'm not sure whether or not they're led's.

The screw in the coin box/compartment is the only one you need to remove, then you just have to pull that whole piece w/ the coin box & switches out, unplug the switches & pry them apart.

That's what I did PearlHonda. Just slipped a piece of that blue sheet I used for the other dash lights and it dimmed them. Looks better than being orange at least.

i see where a piece of filter paper could fit on the cruise button, but im STILL havin probs gettin the moonroof button apart to look inside and how did u position the paper in the side mirror button? i pried it apart but i cant see how the filter would sit in there. I think im makin this more complicated then it is. ASIANPRIDE i havent tackled the door handles yet but i will REAL soon.

Autozone didnt have those bulbs, least not that i could see. I think im gonna have to ask Honda what the hell is the deal on this microscopic bulbs!! Like i said if i cant figure the buttons out ill black them out, hella better than havin orange killin my grand scheme of blue.

I can't remember...

I think it was at the top where that plastic piece slides back and forth from pressing the mirror button.
Wish I had a digital camera...

WhiteRabbit is a glorious beacon of lightWhiteRabbit is a glorious beacon of lightWhiteRabbit is a glorious beacon of lightWhiteRabbit is a glorious beacon of lightWhiteRabbit is a glorious beacon of light
LED emits a specific wavelength of light. your plates ahve a certain voltage potential they reach, and exited atoms that go to an unexited state releace photons in a color. thats why you need to replace the diode. unless its a small lamp. a lamp you can put teh bulb covors on and it will work. otherwise, if you put teh cover on an LED, just like what was stated on page 1, it will just dim the light. this is because its not putting out all frequencies of light, which are getting blocked exept for the filter, the filter is filtering out that one frequency that the LED puts out.

and changing the LED MIGHT not work (who knows, try it!) it depends. for example, a red LED needs a potential of something around the neighborhood of 2 volts to light. but a blue LED needs 5 volts. without that, the LED simply will not even emit light. this means that if you have green or something, and try to put blue, your going to notice a significant dimming of the BLUE LED. but if you had sya, blue to begin with, and then put in red, the voltage is much higher and you would notice, that if you had the same LED's the red would be alot brighter.

something to experiemnt with! id really like to see the results of this. heck ill put teh LED in, if you wanna donate your dash to teh cause. i also have the red/black interior, and my lights match perfectly, so im not gonnna screw with what works in my own car.........

The switches are illuminated by bulbs. You will not ( i am almost 100% sure ) be able to find blue replacement bulbs of this type. The bubls however do have the "condom covers" over them. So you would then think to just get a replacement cover. but where are out of luck here, because the actauly white u see in the daytime, is a seperate peaice from the switch, that is somehow constructed so when light goes through it, it comes out oanrge. I, being the idiot that i am ripped that white peice off, so now theres just a hole in front of the light. It looks really ghetto in the day, but i put a peice of blue Gel paper behiind the hole, and at night it actually looks nice. Hope that helps some of you.

Edit: NVM im a retard. The light is oarnge somewhat, my filter is just really blue :-D.

ok, heres the deal, all you need to do is go to your honda dealer and have them order the bulbs from the 2003 civic hybrid. it has bulbs covered by BLUE condoms. plus, all of its interior lights are blue. i believe the cost is something like 3.25 each.
