2001 Honda civic plastic strut bearing question! please help!
I have a 2001 Honda Civic DX Coupe. It has the plastic upper strut bearing. It does'nt look like a bearing to me. Anywhoo, I have learned alot from this forum and am very greatful for that. But I can't find anywhere on this site what kind of grease is used inside the bearing? I attached a picture for you to see. It's a blue grease and doesn't smell petroleum based AT ALL! So it looks to be safe on plastic. There's alot of weight riding on these plastic bearings, and no one seems to know what kind of grease to lube them up with! I called all the honda service depts. and I get 10 different answers. Please help, i don't want to mess up my install. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

It's not lithium grease though, I know lithium grease well. This blue grease has no petroleum smell to it. Lithium grease does. 2001 was the only year they used these plastic bearings, and I don't want to fork out more cash than I already have to upgrade to 2002 ball bearings and mounts. I figured maybe somebody here would know what goes on the 01 plastic bearings. From my experience petroleum based greases break down plastic and rubber parts.

Well I used chassis grease, used for grease points on trucks. Also used those on my coilovers, and they work like a charm.

Well it's not the Honda Shin-Etsu Silicone grease...I have a tube of that stuff and it's white. I think it's a grease that you cannot buy alone, but you might be able to go to Honda and have them lube them up for you. I think that I might have heard someone say that they keep it in large containers in the dealer shops, but don't sell it. I might be thinking of something else, but a dealer would be a good place to ask either way!

Re: 2001 Honda civic plastic strut bearing question! please help!
they give you different answers because honda does not specify any grease to use in the repair manual. lithium grease is the best option because it does not deteriorate metal or plastic and has high friction resistance, perfect for the consistent movement of the bearing
