Switched to AMSOIL

I have 2 7th gen civic that I ran nothing but Mobile 1. I have a friend that's an AMSOIL dealer so I made the switch. I must say its awesome. Saves me time and money and gas mileage.

I change the oil once a year or every 25k miles using 25k mile filter.

The car starts and runs so smooth and I get way better gas mileage.

For both cars it cost me less than 100 bucks. I don't think 100 bucks a year for 2 cars is bad at all considering it cost about 30 bucks ever 3 months or so to change oil x 2 cars...

Just wanted to share! You guys should check it out. AMSOIL has done all the R&D and have answered every question you can think of...

no offense but....

ur a complete idiot if that's ur route for oil changing.

by doing what ur doing, ur engine is prone to failure, and no wonder you "feel so much of a difference" when you switched/changed to amsoil.

oil needs to be changed every 3 months or 3-5k. which ever comes first.

i only costs me 23 bucks to change my oil. ($12 for 5qt of valvoline, $10 mobile 1 filter)

whats better? spending 30ish bucks and keeping ur car running well, or spending 3000 in a few years due to a tranny failure (or some kinda replacement)

just something to consider, because many of us here will agree with me.

yea you shouldnt change your oil every 25k. Synthetic is safe till 15k in a proper enviornment.

+1 i don't understand why anyone would wait 25k miles to change oil. your just begging for an engine failure by doing that

i dont agree on waiting 25k miles before changing your oil.

to the wtf is amsoil statement, amsoil synthetic is better that mobil 1.

Re: Switched to AMSOIL

there is nothing wrong with running amsoil 25k in your d17 civic. have any of you ever sent oil away for analysis before jumping to your conclusions? i know of people running amsoil on gt35r boosted k20a2s and k24a2s, 10-15 psi, tracked and some daily driven, running amsoil for 10k-15k before changing it, and oil analysis saying they could have even went further.

i used to run mobil 1 in my k20a2 but it would always be a quart low at the 3k mark and it made me nervous. switched to amsoil, stays full. i'm going to run it to 10k then take it in for oil analysis and see how long i could be running it.

now, i can see the issue with running oil that long for most people, it might make them much less inclined to even open the hood. but, most people on this site are going to be tinkering with their cars pretty often. i check my oil about every other time i get gas.

Re: Switched to AMSOIL

i'm not TOO biased but why would Porsche recommend using Mobil 1 synthetic and not AMSOIL if AMSOIL is so frickin' awesome. And also, in my Cayman S the recommended oil is Mobil 1 and they say to only change it every 20,000 miles. Thats good engineering but no thanks, I take it in for a oil change every 4,000 for $150. Why would you even risk ruining a $$$ car that you have all that time invested into to save a few bucks on an oil change. Cheap ***....

wow, most ignorant ****ing comment ever. first of all, all motors are different. second of all, you're paying 150 dollars for an oil change?

Re: Switched to AMSOIL

civic driver nailed it.... but yes I do pay $150 per oil change. 6 quarts of mobil 1, one premium mobil 1 oil filter, 1 hour of labor on a mid engine Porsche at a dealership. It's all about the service records when you go to trade it in. You wanna buy a $60,000 car from a kid that says he changed the oil himself or do you want to buy it with records from a dealer?

Re: Switched to AMSOIL

well the only way to know if the only needs to be changed is if you get it sent off for analysis. i would never jump to that high i would start low and get it analyzed at different intervals to see when it was start to show signs of abuse. its possible for the oil to last that long before degrading it just depends on how the car is run and if the oil stands up to the length of time. oil analysis can really tell you whether or not it needs to be changed at 3000 miles or not. its never going to be a set about for every driver because no engine is the same and no one runs their's the same.

Re: Switched to AMSOIL

Doing an oil change every 25k is possible, just make sure you mix the oil with Palmolive so it cleans out the engine for ya.

Re: Switched to AMSOIL

well im not gonna get into a big deal here, but oil does get old fast. even with LC20 in the oil, the tbn analysis recommends only using it for 10k miles, and thats with a filter change every 5k. filters must be changed every 5-6k miles because they will clog. as for mobil1, i wouldnt use it in my car if someone gave it free. Im sticking with valvoline maxlife and LC20 as long as i have the car. it owns synthetic in every possible way. if you think that amsoil will last 25k miles, esp by itself, well good luck to you.

from what ive seen happen at many dealers, i would prefer the kid who did it himself. thats why i do my own work.
