Experts only!!!....
I unhooked my exhaust at the cat and am running it strait out the cat. my question is will anything happen to my car? I have no resonator on, theres nothing there. just the cat. help me out. just want to make sure im not messing up my car. sounds great though. thanks for the help. please only people that know what they'are talking about.
alrite you prob. going to lose some low-end power bt sice your removing some of the back pressure onur exhaust manifold so horsepower in thehigher RPMs will be higher cause the enigine can breathe better
Not causing immediate harm, but it will cause heat damage to the underside of the car, which could eventually burn out bushings etc. not to mention keep your windows down at stoplights because your car is not airtight. Peace
wtf is this "experts only".....anyways you are driving a car with a 1.7l. engine non-turbo charged....you need backpressure, without it you loose a lot of torque, you want torque, go and re-connect your exhaust system, you won't find any usable power by disconecting it after the cat.....
You will only lose a little bit of torque. That set up will help if you above 3500-4000 rpms all the time. Which I doubt you are. Put that stuff back. Some a$$ cop will probably pull you over and just bug the **** out of you.
Peace

since i took it off i noticed that my top speed has gone up. i used to top out at 110-115 but now im toping out at almot 120. it helps out on the top end like you all said but just wanted to make sure i wasnt messing up my car. about the experts only i just wanted the opinion of people who knew what they were talking about. no offense to anyone else. thanks

EXPERT: You will NOT lose any power, because with an open exit you don't have the problem of a larger diameter pipe and delta pressure... the other "experts" on here who know about this will agree...
It's all about deltapressure. I'd explain, but search on google about this. It will explain it better
<bottom line> if you run straight from the cat out, you are OK, and not losing power. </bottom line>

I have a question too. What type of difference is there by taking off the cat but having a racing muffler. I want it to sound like it has power. Will taking off just the cat make me go deaf even with the racing muffler?
i have to agree with jhonda i was told by a ase certified mechanic that running a car with out a exhust won't hurt the car imedietly but will over the long run due to moisture in the air. the moisture builds up in the cat and when you start the engine it will suck up the mositure into the engine. but as far as i see it if you live in a desert then the worst that can happen is heat damage to the underside of the car but i could be wrong thats just what a mechanic told me.
so don't flame me cause you think i said it thats just what i was told

another EXPERT post re: valves.....
Okay this is what you have to worry about. but first, a public service announcement:
BACKPRESSURE IS NOT HELPFUL. PERIOD. IT DOES NOTHING GOOD. GO READ UP ON DELTA PRESSURE
Thank you....
Now, back to the post... the only time you need to worry about your valves when you're talking about exhaust is with an OPEN system, like headers to open pipe. This is because cold air can come up the pipe when the engine is off and warp the valves. When I was a wee tot (4-6) I used to go under my dad's 350 powered truck with open headers and stuff rags into the pipes so the air wouldn't warp the valves.... and no, I didn't have a mullet
If you have a header, no cat, and an low restriction muffler, and the piping is all the way to where its supposed to be (ie muffler under trunk) you're fine, the air will heat up in the pipe b4 getting to the valves

dude! i had the same thing happen to me, i have gone from dead stop entering the freeway to a top speed of 121, then i go downhill and i have gotten to 140 and i didnt want to go any faster cause my car felt like it was hopping off the ground and shaking really bad!
i have cat back exhaust right now straight from the cat back, none of this resonator crap and i cut off my muffler so its freaking loud.

why not just remove the rear section? i heard that without the length of piping, the surge of air that gets sucked in (by means of "valve overlapping" [go look it up]) could cause you to bend valves. i don't know if our cars have that kind of overlapping, but it's better to be safe than sorry!

it's not a problem, b/c when the valves are overlapped and the piston is creating a vaccum and pulling air in, the other cylinders are exhausting a charge of hot air/gasses and filling the header(s) with this charge... the small amount of exhaust gasses sucked in are warm freshly burnt gasses.... Just keep a header on there and a straight pipe and remember to cap the open end when you shut down the engine
