2001 and 2002 springs the same?

I'm 99% sure that there isn't a difference, but I'm looking for a confirmation. Anyone?

I'm asking because I got my GCs in the mail and they have the 2002 (excl. Si) box checked on the side and not the 2001 (excl. Si) box.

The difference aren't the springs.

1) The rears will fit
2) The fronts will fit, but you may or may not need a new upper bearing OR a new to spring seat. In 2001, the bearing was just a sliding plate. In 2002, they changed to a multiple ball bearing. Therefore, there are two GC upper spring seats: 1 for the sliding plate and 1 for the ball bearing. You need to figure out whether you have the right parts.

I have the springs for the 2002 then. I have the ball bearing spring seat GCs. So I guess I need a new upper bearing? What do you recommend? Does this problem go away if I get new shocks/struts?

Again, the springs are no different.

I would call GC to see if they can swap out the spring seat. The 2002 upper mount is better because there it does a better job being a bearing.

Why are you getting new shocks/struts? It only depends on if you get 2002+ shocks with an upper bearing.

Take a picture of it for me and I can tell you what spring seat you have.

I'm at work, I'll be home in about an hour and a half. I'll snap some pics for you. I was going to get new shocks/struts because 1 strut is blown, and I'm looking to improve the handling too. So I was planning on shocks/struts, springs, rear sway, and tires.

I know for sure the box next to 2002 (excluding si) is checked. I'll take pics when I get home.

So you bought GC coilovers for stock shocks and you are putting them on stock shocks?

LOL. Robb, I'm a damn suspension n00b to the max.

I'm sure what I got are these:

http://www.ground-control-store.com/...p/II=521/CA=55

I'm not going to put them on my stock shocks because I have a blown strut. So my plan was instead of buying OEM shocks I wanted to get aftermarket performance shocks, and combine them with the GC Coilover Springs.

So I found this set of springs for an '02 for cheapo so I bought them thinking '01 and '02 were the same and that I can use them in combination with some adjustable dampers.

Am I just a damn n00b here buying totally the wrong ish? Wasting money cause I'm such a damn baller?

Re: 2001 and 2002 springs the same?

Yeah, I think that is for the 02 because of the stepped lip. The 01 wouldn't have that.

Like I said, you can do 1 of two things
1) Get a 01 upper mount from GC
2) Get an 02 bearing

Do you plan on getting a whole new OEM assembly from the dealer? If so, they should come with new mounts.

Well, I might call GC then and see what they can do for me. Which parts would I need to buy from the dealer if I wanted this to work with aftermarket shocks/struts?

Re: 2001 and 2002 springs the same?

This has got me a bit concerned now. I looked on Majestic Honda and they list different part#s for almost everything. The springs, the spring mounting, the seat, the bumpstop, etc. Is this just because they are different model years or are all these parts physically different?

What all comes with new shocks/struts? Do they come with a new upper bearing, or are you supposed to utilize the old one?

Re: 2001 and 2002 springs the same?

I am confused...stop posting multiple posts!! Damn noob!

You will need number 9 for a 2002+.

I am not sure what you are ordering for stock shocks/struts. Are you just going to order the shocks/struts or the whole assembly? At that rate, just order some tokicos and front bearings. OEM shocks are $85 a piece for the front and $100 a piece for the rear (at least that is what I have discerned from majestic auto).

You can always call them and order parts to make sure you get the right order.

LOL. I'm not going to order stock shocks/struts. I'm going to get new, more better ones. I'm thinking about either getting KYB AGX or Tokico DSPECs. If I get either one of those, I will simply need to purchase #9 both Left Front and Right Front for a 2002? Then I will be good to go? I will have my parts and the GCs that I have will work?

You realize if I order this part from Majestic and I pull an identical one off of my 2001 when I go to put these on. I'm driving to Gaithersburg, MD and burying them in your yard . .

In all seriousness though, I appreciate your patience and help with this stuff.

You may be able to check the mount you have. Look under the car and look at it. If it flat, then it is the non ball bearing one. If it is tapered, then it is the newer one.

You also have to make sure that the GCs for stock shocks will fit the AGX or Dspecs. When you ordered the GCs you have to choose what type of shocks you will have.

And I don't have a yard, I have a small patio on my .03 acres of land. Yay for the burbs.

Re: 2001 and 2002 springs the same?

Allright Robb you are the man. It's all starting to make sense to me now. The sad part is, the more it makes sense the more I seem like the total suspension n00b that I am.

Ok, so my self purchased the ones for the OEM shocks/struts. I didn't realize there was a difference at the time of purchase. Heck I didn't even know there was a difference in what you got with the '01 kit and the '02 kit.

So a couple hundred dollars later. I'm the guy with the 2001 Civic that has Tokico DSPECs and KYB AGXs being watched in my ebay. And I'm sitting here with a spring kit designed for the OEM suspension on a 2002 Civic.

Good thing I'm loaded.

What would you suggest now? Call GC and see what they can do for me? Try to sell these and chock any loss up to experience?

Call GC and see if you can do an exchange. The parts are brand new. Get your shocks, then call them back and get the right springs (with the right upper mount. Of course, you will have to pay for shipping both ways. But I think it is cheaper than the alternative. But see what they have to say.

Well, shoot. Hold the phone. I called GC and they said they couldn't help me. I wasn't expecting it. I didn't buy the springs from them, so it's not their problem ya know?

The guy at GC said try to sell them on ebay or Craigslist or just get Tokicos. (sounds familar, where have I heard that. . oh yeah, robb said it a few posts back)

Here I am overthinking this.

So. Ok. I was dreaming about the DSPECS or the KYB, but I'm coming back to reality. My car is a damn daily driver, why am I aiminig soo high? Am I really going to adjust the height all the time, or am I just going to drop it 1" and call it good?

Answer: The n00b is just going to get the Blues.

Re: 2001 and 2002 springs the same?

Ok Robb...

Why don't the GC Springs designed for the stock struts not fit? Are the performance dampers wider in diameter? Are they taller?

What options are there besides the Tokico Blues that replace the OEM struts? Which others are the same size, so I can layout all of my options for these GC Springs?

Re: 2001 and 2002 springs the same?

I am not sure if they will or won't. I would call GC or Tokico to ask. They may work, but I just don't know. All you will need is the diameter of the shock body on OEM and the Tokicos.

yes, the sleeve needs to fit over the correct diameter shock body.
