Help... Noises coming from (tranny??) when downshifting
Hey everyone, I have a 2005 LX coupe with the Manual tranny. I drive her pretty hard most of the time, and since my brake rotors are running out (I've already driven her 85k miles, and I tend to stop hard
) I've been using the engine to slow down a lot more recently. However, before I replaced my slipping clutch I noticed an odd noise coming from under the hood when I used 1st/2nd gear to slow down. Kind of a whirring metallic noise
. The Honda mechanic told me it was probably because the pressure plate on the stock clutch isn't that strong, and I was continually putting much more pressure on it than it was built to withstand. That all and good, I installed a clutch built for 50% more torque
, not because my engine has insane mods to it, just because I drive her like she does. The problem went away for a little bit, but now it has returned, and I KNOW it's not the clutch, every time i use the 3rd/2nd/1st gears to slow me down, I hear a metallic whirring noise. I'm wondering if I've worn my gears down inside the tranny
or if this is another possible problem. Whatever the case, solutions would be nice to hear. Thanks! Official Rattlesnake Hunter
