springs or coilovers? - newb question

i just got into modding and i have a 04 civic sedan and am interested in lowering it...wat is better and cheaper...full adjustable coilover or springs?

i know enuff if i buy the springs , i need shocks to accomodate the height but for how much $? this is where the newb question comes in, in getting adjustable coilover is there anythign else i need to buy so they would fully accomodate the ride or install them as is? things like struts? lol

i was shooting more into adjustable coilovers becuz i live up north and snow is a bitch wen it comes

can u recommend brands and the $$s?

springs and shocks- wont be able to adjust the right height and prob wont be able to adjust dampening (depending on which you buy of course). You'll need to deal with using a spring compressor if your going to do the install yourself, or pay someone- and ppl dont charge cheap for having to mess with compressing springs just because its a little more of a pain in the *** then most mechanics want you deal with.

coilovers you buy a set and it has everything you need, already assembled, you just gotta throw them on. you wll be able to adjust ride height and dampening/rebound. No need for struts.. they are already part of the coilover.

prices range- buy used and its way cheaper, although less reliable if your looking at springs/struts... coilovers I tend to think are more reliable buying used if driven under the same circumstances just because you dont have to worry about someone building it wrong and having issues with a spring because someone installed it upside down for the past three years up until now. Everyone has their own favorite brands to reccomend - usually what they own.

You got to ask yourself what your going to want out of your suspension... do you want to track the car, do you just want to drive highway, do you go crazy on the weekends, are you grandma- aka stiff or soft suspension... how much adjustability do you want.. yadayadayada...

Better and CHeaper DO NOT go into the same sentence. If you got the money get full coilvers. If you don't get springs but be cautious cause you'll be replacing your shocks, that's if you want anyways

typical driving situations ya know drive in drive out to work not too crazy on the weekends...yes very typical. i wanna be able to adjust twice a yr higher up during the winter snow and lower in the summer. adjustign is another situation of course. but for now gettign the facts straight is ahead.

i guess coilovers are a better choice..all in one right

thanks!

I never suggest altering ride height for seasons for two reasons. 1) It will take you over a week to get it to a place where you like it and 2) you will spend a fortune in alignments (unless you have lifetime alignments). Besides, who wants to spend all that time adjusting? Just set it and forget it.

you need to pay someone...read the FAQ for whether a camber kit is necessary. There is a big thread on it.

Re: springs or coilovers? - newb question

how about regular adjustable coilovers? wouldnt those work good like the ground controls or something of this nature http://www.modacar.com/products/Honda/Civic/MODAADS/

they are a lot cheaper then full coilovers and probably easier to install as well. Probably can run on stock shocks if you stay with a mild drop. 1.5"...right? i am also lookin for a drop and cant decide for shitttt lol
