srs unit replacement
srs unit replacement
Car: 2003 honda civic si
ok, so my srs light came on a couple months ago and i went to the dealership to check it out. They said it was the seatbelts and that they would change them beacuse they are under lifetime warrenty. so they changed the belts and the light went off. one day later the light came back on. i waited a little while to go back because i had no time.
when i went back they pulled up the codes to see what was wrong and they told me it was the same issue.
so i had to bring it back again so that they could call the honda engineers.
so today i get a call and they changed the seatbelts again. they also said that the light didn't go off so they want me to buy another srs unit which cost about 500 something including labor.
i guess the seatbelts are lifetime warrenty, but the srs unit isn't.... go figure
any suggestions?
it seems fishy and the guy made it sound like the engineering didn't know why it was happening and they just decided i needed a new srs unit.
please help

Re: srs unit replacement
This is interesting:
I also have a similar issue. I have a SRS light in my 2002 civic LX. The dealer-**** states it is an "OLD History Code." They cleared it and told me "it might come back on"
The mechanic says it is a High output Load on the passenger side airbag??? Don't quote me on this exact terminology because it was hard to understand
So ofcourse the light comes back on. I take it there and now they are saying it could be:
1. SRS Unit [$415 includes 1.5hrs labor]
2. SRS Harness [$960 includes 2.0hrs labor]
3. Passenger Airbag [$890 includes 1.0hrs labor]
These prices are just for comparison in your case. They want to charge $78 to take a look and test each component for the faulty part. It will be applied to and included into the above costs.
The dealership never did mention anything to me about the seatbelts as potentially being a problem. Maybe it is something that I can inquire further next time I go.
Maybe we can both get this figured out. Anyone else have any input?
Thanks in advance!
