Advice on 4 quality struts -(new).
Would you guys recommend a place online in canada were I can buy 4 new struts? I currently have 4 koni yellows that were on my 2003 civic si when I purchased it a few months ago, but now im getting tired of the hard bumpy ride
, and swerving to avoid every bump on the road. Im looking for your advice on 4 struts that are good quality, and that offer a good smooth ride.

Re: Advice on 4 quality struts -(new).
chuck, the issue is that the struts you have are designed to lower and stiffen the ride for better performance and track grip, which pretty much guarantees a reduction in everyday "pillowy" ride comfort. Also, depending on the type of koni's, the shock towers may have been cut to make them fit.
Assuming you've already played with the adjustment on the konis and it still isn't to your liking, if you want a more stock feel you may have to go with a shock and spring combo that is less geared to performance. Shocks and springs come separately and offer a myriad of lowering and ride comfort options, but they don't corner or handle as smartly (in general) as full coilovers.
A good stock replacement for shocks are Tokico HP's. AKA "Tokico Blues" they are pretty close to stock. They don't like more than about a 1" drop so if you are slammed down you might have to consider something else. Then again, if you are more than about 1.5" drop you can't really expect a pillow soft ride anyways. Dezod has them, as do a number of other retailers.
For springs, if you don't want to lower the car I'm sure there are plenty of slightly used stock civic springs for sale. If you want to lower slightly, I would say the Eibach pro-kit is a good bet (lowers approximately 1"). If you want to be slammed lower than that, check the suspension picture post thread for ideas.
Good luck.

Re: Advice on 4 quality struts -(new).
Thanks for the advice,and help...
I`m not an expert on car parts, but I`am a little confused now because my wife called around to a few local dealers for prices, and she mentioned that we need 4 struts, but the person on the phone said: You need struts, springs, and a mounting kit. I`m confused? My wife then called around some more, and the person on the phone said : You need springs, shocks, and mounting kit. Now is a strut the same as a shock? What parts does the suspension consist of so I know exactly what to buy? Is it shock, strut, spring, and mounting kit?

Well if you are looking for something OEM, then what you want is...
2 Front Upper Mounts
2 Front Struts
2 Front Springs
2 Rear Upper Mounts
2 Rear Shocks
2 Rear Springs
Fronts are Struts, rears are shocks.

Obviously he's not happy with the koni's. Telling him to keep the koni's is like buying someone something YOU want for THEIR birthday.

Re: Advice on 4 quality struts -(new).
Coilover struts generally give better performance than a shock / spring combo, but somewhat at the expense of ride comfort.
I think you should take my advice with a grain of salt - I'm on stock equipment right now and can't recommend anything specifically, but I have HEARD that the Tokico blues and eibach's pro-kit springs work nicely together. The tokico's don't do well with a larger drop (more than about 1.5"), and eibach's pro-kit springs only drop about 1".
Your mileage and experiences WILL vary. wait for other posters to chime in. I recommend not from personal experience, but from what other posters have said.
Re: Advice on 4 quality struts -(new).
I have the Tokico Hp Blue and H&R sport springs (1.3"). The ride quality is simialr to stock. I have nothing bad to say about this combo.
However, i got my springs about 2 years before my Tokicos. If you are going to buy everything at once compare the cost of buying springs and struts/shocks with buying a full coilover setup.
The full coil over set up would also be easier and cheaper to install I would have to think.

Allright - Since Iron Eagle is on AMC right now, I'm hijacking this thread...
I'm thinking about the blues and pro-kits myself... Then SpoonEM had his accident and is selling his coilovers. What is better for my needs?
I drive 22K miles a year, and its mostly on the highway. I need ride comfort to be at least close to stock, and I need tire wear to be about what it was stock. Would like to lower 1", maybe get some better rims. I DEFINITELY want to get a progress rear / front sway bar, and I already have a neuspeed upper strut bar.
I need something that keeps the ride comfortable but would love to have some better handling and grip. I don't auto-x, but I wouldn't mind being able to go to qualcomm one weekend and see how many cones I could knock over. What would you buy in my situation, coilovers or the blues/pro-kits?
Oh, and spoonEM, if you are reading this and haven't sold your coilovers.... I'll be PM-ing you if the peanut gallery eggs me on.
end threadjack...

Re: Advice on 4 quality struts -(new).
Well, to add to my misery, my right rear shock is blown, and my front left shock is blown. This was according to my mechanic. Since I wasnt the original purchaser of the koni shocks, this makes the warranty void. So now I have no choice then to buy an all new suspension. So so far I have been given the advice to buy Tokiko blues, and h$r springs, and or the eiback kit. So I would like the advice of other members on what would be the ideal setup for me? Im not a racer, and I dont want my car lower then 1 if this will kill the comfort ride. I just dont like to swerve around every bump on the road. I use my car for work, and for cruising here and there. I really would like to get something mid level, or best bang for my dollar. As far as I remember, my mechanic told me that I need a shock, struts, springs, and a mounting kit. I hope this was everything becasue I have to buy my setup in the next few days, and I hope you guys can direct me in the right direction?
