I just bought a used 2001 Civic DX with 165k on it. (Yes, I know it has high km's but my 90 accord lasted me from 229k-380k just fine and this 2001 was a good price.)

Sometimes when I pull into a parking spot and have the clutch completely in the engine surges just slightly, then calms down to a normal idle never to surge again. It's a base model with NO TACH (the horror!) so I don't know the exact RPMs but it's just as if I had just BARELY pressed the gas pedal. Just a slight wind up, then everything's fine.

Also, I'm not 100% sure if it's me being heavy on the pedal, but it seems when I'm shifting the car tends to "rev up" just a little when I engage the clutch to shift.

Is this normal? Could the two be related?

I've been reading all about more serious surge problems. Suggested was to check the throttle body, IACV, EGR valve, bleed the coolant, etc. I plan to bleed the coolant first and then check everything else.

i have a problem with surging and one time that i checked for codes it said it was sumthing with the EGR valve what should i do? my battery light is always on. and when it surges the check engine light comes on and does off quick and keeps doing it untill it just stays on the engine and my revs go to zero but my engine is still running but idles rough. any ideas will be greatly appreciated.
