Who wants a JDMFabtech Intake Mani? Steve and I do! - Serious Interest Only

All right folks, opportunity is knocking. You should really answer the door.

Steve (exturbo6) and I are working with Gerry (02fpcivic) at JDM Fabtech and are each going to buy a top-mount turbo manifold to hot glue on to our boosted D17s (bolts are for suckas). The more folks who order one at the same time, the lower (within reason) the price gets.

"But 'foos. Why should I care?"

I knew you'd ask that question. Because you have a boosted Civic and don't want to use the crappy, poorly designed plastic intake manifold that Corky the Honda Design Tech decided was a good idea to use on the 7th gen. Go the website (www.jdmfabtech.com) and look at the pieces. Look at pictures of Justin's (boilermaker1), Andy's (andyman97) and Gerry's cars. This is good quality kit.

"But 'foos. I don't have that kind of money."

That's OK, as long as that sentence is followed by a "Yet." You've got some time to give blood, sell that extra kidney you're been hanging on to, and who really needs 10 toes AND 10 fingers anyway? Superfluous meat if you ask me.

We're looking at getting this going near the end of January, early February so if you want to buy one then, you've got some time to scrape together some cash. The way it works it half to Gerry up front and the other half when he's done (estimated about 3 weeks) to finish the deal and ship your intake mani.

Steve and I are doing this regardless of who else hops on this bandwagon. It's an individual effort that Steve let me know about, but there's an opportunity for other folks to benefit from it as well. Here is your chance to get a quality intake manifold for less than what you'd pay for it going to Gerry by yourself.

Serious inquiries only. You've got to pay to play with the D17, we all know that. Post your questions here or in PM to Steve or me, but keep in mind we're just customers here.

Re: JDMFabtech Intake Mani Group Buy - Serious Interest Only

by top-mount, you mean the TB will still sit on top so I can use my current IC piping? and will it accommodate a larger TB as well?

good info for those wanting to build their motor to go with it...

Re: JDMFabtech Intake Mani Group Buy - Serious Interest Only

Yeah Tony, by top-mount meaning your current IC piping should fit just fine. I'm getting a straight-up D17 flange put on mine, but I imagine you can get a standard upgraded 60mm Honda TB flange put on if you wanted. Since it's a completely custom, fabricated manifold, you have some leeway.

If you're serious about it, it's something we can definitely ask Gerry. I don't want to bombard him with a ton of questions here and there which is why I made this thread. To consolidate the questions and get the folks who are serious about doing this.

I just put up most of car audio stuff on to Ebay that I was going to install on my car. That will pay for half or more of my intake. Maybe all of it if I sell everything.

Yep. That's why I want one. And that nagging little detail that a plastic mani can't reliably hold much more than 10 psi...

Re: JDMFabtech Intake Mani Group Buy - Serious Interest Only

No group buy!!!!! I have the only one!!!!!
Oh well, I'll still have the only one. I've gone back and forth with gerry about tweaking it, so the original is mine and only mine suckas!!!
Just so y'all know.... it makes a whole bunch of power when you throw boost at it. Like.... drop the compression 1/2 a point and still make 8 HP more than stock bunches of more power, not to mention is makes getting bigger (longer) injectors in there a breeze. You'll have to redo your chargepipes though... and probably whack some hood frame out. Because it drops straight into the runners, it raises the plane of the throttle quite a bit.

You forgot to post the best pic

My tuner claims he can do 200whp off 6lbs. We'll see how long that keeps me happy.

I give it about 2-3 weeks. See there's almost like a second stage in the turbo you don't even find out about until it goes past 6.5 - 7psi. There's this psssssSSSSSSSSSSHHT that is really something else.

Good to know about the hood part Justin. Although I am leary about cutting pieces of my car off.....

so will the production piece be the round one or the sqared-off one?? i like the looks of the round one and the square one looks like the fuel rail opens to the wrong side....

Re: Who wants a JDMFabtech Intake Mani? Steve and I do! - Serious Interest Only

Tony, the fuel rail in that side mount (the square one) is Gerry's own fabricated fuel rail to run a return fuel setup on our cars. It's got ports on both sides to accommodate the inlet and return lines. The ones we're looking at getting are the top mount (rounded) ones. He's re-tooled the design a little apparently and there aren't any issues with the hood clearance or PS and AC lines like on Justin's version.

Re: Who wants a JDMFabtech Intake Mani? Steve and I do! - Serious Interest Only

No no no. You'll hear it at 6lbs. It does have a different sound at at higher pressures, but that's down to physics and pressure.

What I'm talking about is the sound of the compressor spooling up. It has (at least on my GT30) almost like a 2nd stage of spool where it goes psssssssssssshhhhhh(up to 6ish psi)SSSSSSSSSSSSSHHHHHHHHT(above 6ish psi). This is accompanied by my *** getting pinned into the seat while the turbine throws gobs of air down the IM.

I want a JDM Fabtech intake mani but I am running N/A would there be any possibility of getting one of there long tube NA design

http://www.jdmfabtech.com/images/Ger...ed_250x187.jpg

I know they say that they don't plan on selling any of those, but I would love to get my hands on one, or something like that with maybe a top mount instead of a side

I'm sure anything is possibly if you have the money to pay for it. Is this a serious inquiry, because it probably won't be cheap if it is possible. Let me know, or just shoot him an email and ask.

Re: Who wants a JDMFabtech Intake Mani? Steve and I do! - Serious Interest Only

Yeah this is a serious inquiry. I have seen both Andy's and Justin's in person and there are both really nice, and I have been to jdm fabtech's website and seen the prices, and they don't scare me too much (you have to pay to play).

But like most people I do have a limit to how much I am willing to spend so I am looking for something preferably in the price range of the two designs. But I realize also how hard it would be to make, so if it cost a little extra I probably won't be too bothered.

well i think it will b easier for gerry if we all do the same IM. I am not looking into the side mount for a few reasons, nothing special, i just think its a lil easier to work with then the side mount, i could be wrong. but i am going for the top mount and i believe clint is also...

Yeah, top mount is the one I want.

OK, let's see what Gerry says about what about a ballpark on a longer runner NA mani. I'll post up what he comes back with.

Re: Who wants a JDMFabtech Intake Mani? Steve and I do! - Serious Interest Only

Hey guys I just got home. I havent posted up any threads on this stuff seeing as I didnt want to throw rocks at the hornets nest and **** anyone off for not having a vendor's account.

To clear things up:

-The current design of the topmount manifolds should severely reduce, if not eliminate the clearance problems that we encountered with Boiler's manifold without sacrificing power. The new design requires more cnc work but less welding, keeping the price the same. It will still have the radiused runner entry-ways but they will be incorporated into the plenum flange instead of separate pieces, eliminating much of the welding in the plenum/runner area.

-I can put virtually any size throttle body on these manifolds. However seeing as the IAC valve is located on the stock TB it will need to be relocated. I need to get another $75 to do this. Most likely you will lose the cruise control seeing as almost every aftermarket TB has no CC provisions. Unless you are going with a totally insane build, I would suggest keeping the stock TB seeing as its not much smaller of an ID than standard 2.5" IC piping.(Just about 2 3/8"or approx 60mm)

-As for the N/A manifold, The biggest reason I didnt want to make them is because the gains were minimal on a stock engine and most of the people wanting one had Intakes, Header and CAT backs. N/A manifolds are VERY picky when it comes to usable power curves and each combo of parts usually renders different results. The N/A design posted on the site felt great on my car with an intake, long tube header, no cat and 2.5" exhaust. It fattened the midrange up a bit. I'd imagine a stage 2 cam would have had better results. I wouldnt mind trying another one but I wouldnt spend the money unless you at least have a cam, supporting mods, and hondata. I couldnt promise huge gains but I bet we could squeak some more out of it. It would have to be a sidemount TB due to space limitations.

Thanks guys

P.S. My car isnt done, but with good reason. We are trying to finish the other shop car to go racing this year. We have a twin turbo 71 Nova going together. Full tube chassis, 1000+HP capable. We should have the car off the chassis table in about 2 weeks.

Excellent stuff Gerry! I don't think you're even close to violating any terms of this site since you're not advertising your parts for sale, etc., etc. This is just an easier way to communicate than back and forth in email since Steve and I are both buying an intake mani from you.

So, if we keep the stock TB, there's nothing to worry about from an IACV standpoint, yes?

Thanks for posting up and un-muddying the waters a bit!

Re: Who wants a JDMFabtech Intake Mani? Steve and I do! - Serious Interest Only

Correct, Clint. I am trying to make these as bolt-on as a custom manifold can be with the exception of needing a vaccuum manifold and tweaking the IC piping a lil bit. You could pretty much pop one of these on a stock civic and very likely not throw any codes, it would lose power for sure though, hehe. Back when I was testing all kinds of ideas I found that as long as all the sensors are used and there were no vaccuum leaks the computer really didnt seem to mind. Realistically anyone buying one of these should have some way of making fuel corrections anyways so there should be no issues whatsoever from a tuning standpoint.

Re: Who wants a JDMFabtech Intake Mani? Steve and I do! - Serious Interest Only

Cool!!!

Well I am still interested in the N/A mani I am curious to see how much you can actually squeeze out of a D17. Right the moment I have megan race headers, exhaust, cat delete, crower stage 2 cam, Hondata k-pro, and a simota intake that could easily be turned into a side mount intake.

And I am thinking about picking up a spare block probably by spring, and trying some higher compression pistons I was talking to boiler a couple of days ago about some different piston combinations, so I think I am going to go all out with this motor and see what she can really put down

For $700 it wont be like mine I promise. Not to sound cocky but I'd put mine up against his on a dyno and a photoshoot and you'll see where the extra $200 went. No stone was left unturned, these are really great manifolds and I think where I've gotten the price to now is very manageble for a serious enthusiast. The 3/8" heat insulator really works well, not to mention everything accepts the factory hardware and is still o-ring fit. Steve and Clint will be very satisfied with the new manifolds if they decide to pick them up.
