More CEL problems!!!
TO start off, I did search the forums for answers but only became more confused so if anyone can help i would be very thankful. So my check engine light came on and I took it to the dealership. The code he gave me was P1259. But he also said it was Air Fuel Metering, and that it probably had to do with the O2 sensor. So when I started searching on here everything was saying it is VTEC malfunction so now im really confused. My car idles low and bogs down when i am coming to a stop and i havent tried to go over 4k RPMs because I already have enough problems with my car. So if anyone can help me to figure out what I need to do that would be great because i dont want to have the Dealership charge me big $ for something I can replace myself.
Re: More CEL problems!!!
So i decided to go on a little test drive after reading up on some of the problems others have had relating to VTEC malfunction, and it is definitly not in "limp mode" because i was able to go well over 4000 rpms
so i was wondering if there were any other things i could look for in helping me figure out exactly what is wrong. Once again any help u guys could give me is a big help.

the problem with diagnosing this code is that u need all of honda's diagnostic programming and computers, as well as a way to reset the pcm/ecu(u can just remove the ecu fuse) but it is a very lenghty process, and u WILL need diag equipment, realistically your better off taking it to honda, as they will be the only ones who can diagnose the problem.
the first thing you can do is check for poor connections or loose terminals at hte vtec solenoid valve, vtec oil pressure switch, and at the ecm/pcm
second, check for voltage between vtec oil pressure switch 2p connector terminal No.1 and body ground
check for resistance between vtec solenoid valve 1p connector and body ground for between 14 and 30 ohm
if no, replace the vtec solenoid
that is the simplified version of the process, so if u want, replace the vtec solenoid, it MIGHT solve ur probelm, but it may not

Re: More CEL problems!!!
clean your vtec out yo! same happened to me and there was sand in the filter (B). open the thing up both top and side pieces and clean it all, the problem will go away.

Re: More CEL problems!!!
i had to dig through the archives on that lol. but the exact same happened to me. i kept getting vtec malfunctions, and every time i would reset the light ( i keep code reader in the glove box
) it would come back if i went above 2800rpms. finally i took the top part off and pushed the lil button, it fixed it for a week, then came back. so i took the whole thing off and the lil filter was all clogged up. i cleaned it up and been going almost a year with no more cel.

Re: More CEL problems!!!
Awesome thanks guys ill try that out tomorrow. But I am still curious as to why the mech. at Honda said it was the A/F metering. I mean they cant be complete idiots there, can they?

Re: More CEL problems!!!
well yes they can lol. a/f metering has nothing to do with vtec malfunction. it has everything to do with the primary 02 sensor and that has its own code. just in case you havent done this yet, check the oil level to be sure its at the max when car is cold. if thats fine, clean the solenoid and you should be fine. maybe they were looking at the non-specific cel codes and not the honda codes.
Re: More CEL problems!!!
Well it turns out that the light went off this afternoon. The only thing I recently did was put more oil in the car. Not even change the oil although i need to bc it has been a lot more than 3k. but one last question gearbox, did u have to remove/ move anything else out of the way to get out the solenoid bc i figure i might as well clean it. I know the solenoid isnt hidden but it did seem like some stuff might have been in the way. Once again thanks a lot for your help. rep added

Re: More CEL problems!!!
yeah the airbox has to come off and maybe a bracket. i have aftermarket intake with all the mounting removed, so it was pretty easy for me. i can see the whole thing just looking in the back of the engine. i would still clean it, the light might just come back on again. but if it was just low oil, maybe you fixed it.
