Knocking sound when clutch is NOT pressed
I have 2001 Civic LX 5MT.
I can mostly hear the knocking sound when my car is in neutral at idle and any lower gear when there is not much wind noise. But as soon as I press the clutch, the sound goes away.
I basically park my car, I put it in neutral and let the car run. The knocking sound is the same sound that valves would make in the engine, but the reason why I know it is not engine is because when I press the clutch the knocking goes away.
So it must be something with the driveshaft or some joints around drive shaft. When the clutch is pressed down, it means that the clutch plates are separated and no power is transferred directly to driveshaft and the sound goes away; as soon I release the clutch the knocking starts.
What could be problem? I would like to know before I take it to shop in the morning.
Thanks.

Re: Knocking sound when clutch is NOT pressed
How easy is it to get to the input shaft bearing. I'll take it to my friend's shop but I just want to know what the labor costs are for these things.
Thanks.
Thanks.
Re: Knocking sound when clutch is NOT pressed
i priced mine out ... my shaft ebaring went too and you can actually replace the part which is 16.84$ CAN and about 900$CAN FOR LABOR FROM honda now there is another way to do this.. you can actually get a bearing kit for your tranny which most technicians recommend you replace and it will run you 165$CAN soo once you pull the tranny out you might as well replace all of them since you have it apart already.. but if you wanna a learning experience taking a tranny out in our cars does not take long and its pretty straight forward if you got time and of course tools
Re: Knocking sound when clutch is NOT pressed
That would be your input shaft bearing in your transmission. about 30 bucks from you honda dealership... is real hard to install yourself so i would take to dealership or shop to do..
Re: Knocking sound when clutch is NOT pressed
Def the input shaft bearing.
I had to do this on my car not to long ago, Thank's to the DIY on this board though, Step by step and easy. It might take a little bit more for someone new to car's but it is pretty stright forward.
I got a kit from canadian tire for 150$ candian
Now, there is another clutch kit you can get too. It's a little bit more performance and lasts alot longer..although this should run you about 250$ (100$ more)
DOnt forget the fluid and extra's though..
