2001 LX rattle inside (?) dashboard
2001 LX rattle inside (?) dashboard
Greetings,
At speeds over about 40 mph and over 45mph for certain, I get a rattle (sounds like whirring) in my dashboard. Driver side. Obviously, I can't lean over close enough at that those speeds to get my ear right onto the dash and locate it.
Say that I'm behind the wheel. Divide the space directly in front of me into 4 quadrants. The noise is in the top left quadrant, over in the direction of my stickers on the front windshield. That's as closely as I can locate it.
Can anyone venture a guess what might be causing this?
TIA,
Philip

I appreciate your reply. Sorry to be so slow in responding, I wasn't around for a while. And now, to reveal my ignorance, what do you mean by "pillar?" Is that the same thing as the steering column? How would I check for this? The steering column itself does not wobble from side to side or forward or backward, has no play in it.
I can't help thinking that the noise is caused by some rotating piece.

check the a pillar trim. A good check to see if that is the problem: push on the base of the pillar or dash around the pillar to see if the rattling goes away. There is a Technical Service Bulletin about that rattle so its a common problem (I fixed it on my car). 04-031 is the TSB.
