Tire Rotation per Honda or "as taught"
Tire Rotation per Honda or "as taught"
I have a question regarding tire rotation (all season tires) and the recommended intervals as suggested by my 2007 Si. On any other vehicle I have owned the rotation was recommended every 10-12,000 miles on the Si it is recommended every oil change (5-6,000 miles) which seems kind of excessive.
According to the service tech I spoke to "Honda wanted to make it simple for the customer to keep track of their maintenance so they rounded down all of the service that would usually come up in-between oil changes" He also suggested that I could rotate the tires every other oil change ( as long as I was able to keep track).
So...which would the forum recommend?

Seems excessive to me too, I wouldnt worry about it, tires are tires for any vehicle. I think they say every 5-6k miles because maybe the stock tires they put on there are performance tires(Si), which wear down more quickly. But I wouldn't worry about it, and do your traditional rotating of 10-12k miles.

the place i get my oil changed does the oil, rotation, check and top fluids, and visual inspection for $14. yea, every oil change might be a bit excessive, but for $14, im not gonna complain

^that's a hella deal.
for the rest of us, i think 10k is fine. hell, those of us with directional tires can't really even properly rotate them.

I give my car to them and and get it back in like 3 hours... The dealer says that everything is perfect on ur car even though he didnt know the following issues:
How the f*** could the car be perfect when:
1) I have throwout bearing problem which makes noise even driving for a few2 seconds.
2) My AC compressor makes a HISSING sound while reving.
3) He says that brakes had 40% of life remaining while on the real side a week later my brakes started making those warning steel noise !
LAST BUT NOT LEAST !!! 4) How the heck did they check the brakes when I had aftermarket RIMS and I didnt even have the key for the RIM LOCKS in my car ????
Asking the guy all this **** ... he came up with the excuse of Oh the inside guys who do the inspection just give us the report. Im just reading it of the piece of paper !!! And that was my last service at the STEALERSHIP like an year ago !
Moral of the Story: SOme deals are too good to be true dude ... so u always gotta look for the CATCH !!!
@ topic maker: Sorry 4 jacking ur thread buddy, Nissan reccomends tire rotation on every 7500 miles... 10K rotation will never hurt too much .. Trust us all !

I never let anyone work on my car unless I really cant do it like alignments or what not, otherwise try to do these things yourself and learn a little about your car than having someone else tell you........

Re: Tire Rotation per Honda or "as taught"
I try to swap sides each rotation ( I avoid keeping the tires on the same side for 2 terms in a row ) I rotate every 5000.
What has worked well recently is, passenger front to drivers rear & drivers rear to passenger front. Drivers front to passengers rear & passengers rear to drivers front each rotation.
I got 43k out of the stock RE92s (rated at 40k) currently have Michelin Harmony models installed. ( BTW, the new tires did NOTHING for the terrible road noise )
It has been my experience that if a tire is in place too long and gets "cupped" or "scalloped" they will never recover and will always be noisy.
After finding out about what is required to replace broken/stripped wheel studs on Civics and past bad experience with free rotation I have been taking care of my tires and factory fat 5s myself since day 1.

Re: Tire Rotation per Honda or "as taught"
10k is fine.
but i use to rotate my tires every 5k-7k miles on them. I made my kuhmo asx's last around 45k before i replaced them with some pirelli's.
If you dont want to pay someone to do it, just do it your self. All you need is a jack and some rachets and you can probably do it in 20-30min. If you have a impact wrench you can probably do in 10-15min.
here's a link that goes into more detail about rotationing

I do everything by feel or with a torque wrench.
Re: Tire Rotation per Honda or "as taught"
That sounds too good to be true. But Im not saying that YOU are lying but probably the place u get it done is Lying... Check this out ... My local HONDA DEALEARSHIP has a special $21.99 for oil change, fluid fill up and 21 point inspection which includes BRAKE inspection...

Re: Tire Rotation per Honda or "as taught"
With most cars front wheel studs are fairly easy to replace... Not sure what Honda was thinking on this. Wheel studs can and do break.
If the tech that does the rotation does the job properly it would not be a problem. Each case will be different.
