my car revs to 1500 in neutral

hey guys- my car just hit 90,000 miles last week! i was so impressed about how ive never taken it to the shop for anything- even tho i did buy the car with an extended 100k mile/7yr warranty back in '01

anyway, as luck would have it- my first problem has come through.

i drive a 5spd. when i shift into neutral so that i can coast into a stop- my revs usually smoothly go down to idle- somewhere at 750 rpm. BUT NOW.. they go down to 750, then immediately kick up to 1500 and hold for about 4 or 5 seconds, then drop to 1000 (maybe 750). whats up with that? any ideas?

ive had my FIPK2 K&N air filter on for years, i just cleaned it last year. maybe its an air sensor?

Thanks

Check your idle air valve.

does it continue to do this after the engine is up to temp? it could be a faulty cold start enrichment. basically what this does is raises the idle to about 1200-ish until the engine is up to temp, in order to get it to temp faster. i had to have mine replaced last year

i noticed that if i turn my steering wheel, the revs drop too.

i took it to the dealer- turns out that the wires from my power steering pressure sensor switch were worn out. they repaired the wires and im good to go!
