i need to install a new oil pan on my 03 ex coupe. My uncle owns a shop and has given me probly close to 100 free oil changes over the years. About a year ago one of his idiotic mechanics managed to strip the **** out of my drain plug. Since, it has had a slow leak, basicly just a tiny bit of oil pooling at seam of the plug, maybe a drop or two reaching the ground once every couple days, and there was no oil loss that was significant enough to cause a problem, so ive delt with it since then, and i dont want to complain after all those free changes. Anyways, its been bugging me to see how bad the plug is, so i changed the oil myself today. Its stripped as ****, and had to do everything i could to (hopefully) returning it to the slow slow leak it had. I want to just buy a new pan and install it myself. So my question is, i didnt look too close but basicly do i just remove all the bolts around the pan than pry it off? Are all the bolts easily accessable? (i have a lift and all the tools available to me), do i need to buy a certain kind of sealant for the gasket? I priced a pan online for $102, and just want to leave my uncles shop out of this one, and take care of all regular maintenance myself from now on. Im also interested in draining and refilling my manual transmission fluid, how easy are the plugs to get to? Just turned 60k, and have done nothing to my civic but regular oil changes, so far its treating me great, not one problem. But i dont want to run in to any in the near future. Anything else i should do?

if you got a lift, then all there is to it is exactly what you posted up

18 bolts (i think).. I have a spare oil pan chillin in my room that I just got and thats how many bolt holes there are on the top. Since you have an EX, then you don't need a new gasket to put it on, just go to wal-mart or autozone or something and buy some RTV. Put a small line on the sealing surface of the oil pan, put it on, bolt it up, and you're home free. Having a lift makes it 20-gajillion times easier

thanks man. just wanted to make sure it was as easy as i thought it was before i bought the part. and i guess i lucked out having a girlfriend whos dad has his own lift in his garage, and every tool including air tools hah

you have to drop the exhaust to get the pan off its a really easy job even if its just on jack stands.

You should probably look at changing:
trans fluid
coolant flush (if more then 5 years old)
air filter
cabin air filters

you'll need some sealant for your new oil pan when you install it. i think honda makes a special sealant for this, but i forgot the name. just go to the dealer and ask them for it.

hmm, shes pretty rusty. id probly break something trying to disconnect the exhaust there, then cause more problems. So is it doable at all without removing the exhaust, or does that just make it easier?

im on vacation from work this week, so i plan to do everything to my car i can..

brake pads --25k miles on them, all city driving. still fine, but want to change them now.

i think i read somewhere, could of been on here a longg time ago, that someone wrote up to just drain the coolant, fill it with water, runt he engine for a couple mins watching that it doesnt overheat, then drain again and fill with coolant. i think they are full of it.the system needs to be flushed to get it out of the block right? think it would be worth it to drain it , then fill it back up with new stuff without doing the whole flush thing?

When I did my turbo install I just used some autozone bought silicone RTV.. I haven't had a single leak since the install

there is a large like 19mm drain bolt on the back of the block above the oil filter just take that out and then shoot a hose into the radiator to flush out the whole system. replace the plug the refill and bleed

when i bought my car, i didnt notice until long after, but the damn owners manual wasnt with it. how much coolant does it take to fill? do i have to buy honda brand, or will others work just as well? i want to put the best into my car.

how much did your turbo setup cost you total, with installation and everything? how good did you build your engine, how much boost can it safely take? thats my long term goal, i have my entire car done except coilovers (been working on this car since high school!! over 2 years haha), then last but not least a good engine rebuild then boost. Hopefully ill have everything done by next summer. Ive learned to wait, spend more money, and do the best possible job, rather than cheaply rushing into things.

My turbo setup... ehhh it was a lot haha im probably at like $6500 rite now for everything including the engine. I have all the goodies for the block, Crower rods, Weisco pistons and more. I left the head stock for now since my goal is only 300 hp I think I can make it w/o messing with the head. Ill probably run like 15-17 lbs of boost. It depends on when I blow up the stock plastic intake manifold haha.

I use Honda coolant just cause I feel safer that way. You should be able to get away with prestone or whatever tho. It holds a little more then a gallon.
