What's the easiest way to adjust timing?
Hey y'all. Been a while but I have a quick question. This weekend I did a head swap on my '96 EX. Process went pretty smooth, but we forgot to mark the timing gear with the belt. We put the new head on and eventually got the timing gear/belt on. The car started fine, but it is defintely out of timing.
We managed to get the timing gear on with the belt by tilting the head. I don't want to do this for several reasons mainly because I have to take the whole darn thing apart again. I thought about trying to get the gear back on without tilting the head. I'm hoping one of you smarter fellas can tell me a simple way to do this? Any ideas?
Sorry I don't have any pics, but I can snap some of the old head. I think I'm gonna play with it and tke it apart unless anyone know someone I can sell it to.

Re: What's the easiest way to adjust timing?
first off, if you dont know what youre doing, you shouldnt have attempted this. dont say you knew what you were doing because if you did, you wouldnt have this problem. if you wouldve gotten the tool for the tensioner and loosened it up, you couldve slid the belt off and on easy. if you had the timing marks on the crank and cam lined up where they were supposed to be when you put the belt back on and the marks didnt move, cam timing shouldnt be off. your ignition timing on the other hand is going to be off no matter what you do. if you got the distributor back in the way its supposed to be, use a jumper wire or the honda tool to jump the service connector to disable the cars ability to advance the timing, hook a timing light up, and set the timing.
