manual tranny noise....
i read the sticky on the manual tranny noise in this section, and it doesnt seem to be my problem.... anyway, the problem is on my fiance's 02 ex manual, 85,xxx miles, intake and exhaust are the only mods.
when i have everything turned off, not motor, and the window down, in all gears, there is a grumbling sound coming from the transmission, its more pronounced at low speeds, and she doesnt drive very hard, so my question is this what the hell could be wrong... its not a grinding, clicking, or any other noise, it sounds kinda like the trans is gurgling, like when u use mouthwash, but anyway im gonna check the fluid tomorrow at the shop, but other than that what could it be??

tell u what, ill let u know whenever the stealership gives me some info, i know im having 2nd gear popping out problems(tsb) which im gonna have em fix too, hopefully it is just a bearing, whether throwout or otherwise, there is a sticky to diagnose manual tranny noises in the suspension section
https://www.civicforums.com/forums/3...save-some.html
id check that before u decide to do anything drastic

Re: manual tranny noise....
Yeah thanks man .. I already checked that DIY out ... thing is that it says that its better to change both bearings at the same time coz it costs u like $23 more...
U never know man .. You get one of em fixed and drive for like a month and then the other one goes bad :-S Might aswell replace em both and save $300+ on labor or so :-D
Keep me posted though ... take care

Re: manual tranny noise....
well, here is the deal, went to honda yesterday to drop off the 02 ex. they called me today to say that its not shifting right...(knew that), so they took it apart, only to find gears missing teeth, bad synchros, bad bearings, bad throw out bearing, and lots of metal shavings and chunks in the bottom. bottom line, they said i need a new trans(her car, not mine) they said itll be about 3500 bucks for a new manual trans, throw out bearing, pressure plate, and clutch, including labor.... hopefully the warranty covers it.... they said the cause could be from somebody speed shifting it, which my fiance doesnt know how to do, or even what it is, so it has to be from the previous owner.... just goes to show that u dont buy a previously modded civic, or any car for that matter, especially when its got neon's under the dash....
Re: manual tranny noise....
Are you serious !!! ... My Car was previously owned by a 17 year old High School Drop Out !!!
And no more warranty ... so hopefully things get better when i just change the clutch, flywheel, bearings and Pressure plate

Re: manual tranny noise....
well, i gotta pay 200 bucks for a "deductible", but imgettin a rebuilt trans put in, so warranty paid for it, but its 270 for clutch, pressure plate, and throwout bearing, but i guess its better than 3500....

Re: manual tranny noise....
Daggone, still much better than 3500 though. Good news that the warranty still covered the car even though it had been modded. Just goes to show you. Neons. They're bad for transmissions too.
