couple questions before begin wiring neo

well the head swap is done and now im left to wire the neo. its basically the same as the vafc2. (btw i have lx with ex head) i was going to rush and try to do it before it got dark but thiught how easy it could be to make a mistake so now before i start tomorrow i want to make sure im going to do this rigtt.
1. according to the directions i will only use 6 wires from the neo, these are IG power, ground, throttle signal, vtec signal (which will acually go straight to solenoid, and rpm) Is this correct?
2. i have soldering gun now and ive practiced soldering wires together my ? now is do i solder every wire together? the book says some wires need plugs but idk how to do that so would it hurt to solder it all to ecu wires, will the ecu wires get too hot when i melt the stuff on it? and do i even solder the vtec signal wire directly to the solenoid wire?
3 and my last question, the wire size on the neo harness says type awg22 meaning 22 guage, i had to go buy more so it would reach from ecu to solenoid and all i could find was AWM22, same guage different code before it? will this matter? i got it at radio shack.

ok, let me know if u have any of the answers. for those who did successfully solder the controller etc what did u do etc. need tips asap bc i will start tomorrow.

ps writing sucks bc im tired

Re: couple questions before begin wiring neo

just unplug the ecu before soldering obviously. not sure on the wiring, just use the old vafcii stuff i guess. theyre still floating around, just be sure you do not use the apexi diagram which contains some mistakes.

Re: couple questions before begin wiring neo

i have an lx i swapped a full a2 in still using my lx ecu and a vafc2. i cant remember exactly how many wires i used. i know the vafc2 has 2 power, 2 ground, vtec in, vtec out, rpm, throttle, map, and maybe one or 2 more. i soldered every single wire. dont use any plugs, connectors, or clips that might come undone in the future. its a pretty tight fit where youll be working and you probably wont want to be back in there any time soon. as for the vtec out wire, i cut the connector off the vtec soleniod and soldered the vtec out wire directly to the soleniod wire. dont worry about the wires getting hot. theyre going to get pretty hot but as long as nothing starts to melt youll be fine. the wire you got should be fine. make sure you pay close attention to which wires you tap into andwhich ones you cut completely. some require just a splice and the ones with an in and out signal with the exception of vtec require you to cut the wire and wire the in signal wire to one side and the out signal wire to the other. another tip, if the neo has a 2 part harness like the vafc2 i would pull the engine harness all the way through the firewall and work on it from the engine bay area. makes it a lot easier. or you could do the same thing if the neo will fit through the hole the engine harness goes through. no matter how you do it, take your time and check everything a billion times before you cut anything and check it a billion more when youre finished. it took me the better part of a day to do the wiring alone because i was back and forth to my computer, the vafc2 manual, this forum, and my car. if you have anymore questions, let me know.

reading this scares me hah. the neo diagram i think is correct. it doesnt show a vtec in or out just a vtec signal... surely the newest model of the controller has the right diagram? idk i dont think anyone else on here has wired the new neo.

Re: couple questions before begin wiring neo

well, the vafc2 has a vtec input that comes from the vtec output from the ex ecu. and then it has a vtec output from the vafc2 harness to the soleniod. it requires a break in the signal from the ecu to the soleniod for people running a vtec exu so that the vafc2 can engage vtec at the factory settings or the ones you provide. there wasnt an exact diagram with the vafc2 for the 7thgen. you just get an ecu pinout and find the wires you need to tap. there should really be 2 vtec wires on the neo. i guess if the only one there is an output signal to the solenoid it wouldnt be a problem for you if youre running an lx ecu. i dont understand how it would work for vtec ecu guys. the neo should come between the ecu and soleniod on the vtec wire in case it needs to intercept the signal to change the engagement points. is there anyway you can get pics of the harness and the diagram on here for me?
