Mods that void warranty?
I want to add a k and n air filter to my 2002 civic Ex will this void the warranty? What other mods would void warranty?
I'm pretty sure that wouldn't qualify as voiding your warranty, as far as other things go, I'm not really all too sure about a lot of mods but let's just say that package from Gude might raise a few eyebrow's at the dealer
Hey Guys,
I went to authorized Honda dealer (Gillman Texas) last sat and they started selling all aftermarket parts like AEM intake, Altezza lights, Magnaflow muffler, and more. And I asked them if these parts would void the warranty and they said "NO".
So I guess you're fine...

the general rule is that bolt-ons won't void your warranty, unless the mod can be shown to be a direct cause of whatever went wrong. take for example lowering springs - if you put them on and then blow your shocks, you can't get the shocks replaced under warranty.

A flyer is right , if it is a simple bolt on mod, it will not void your warranty they will ride you for it .. .but it wont.. magnuson- moss act allows this ... its ays basically if they want to void your warranty they have to prove that what you did caused it . so unless you are adding something like a turbo or something like that that could hurt your enigne's componets that cant handle the increase in pressure or Hp ... dont worry about it ..
Technically, unless your warranty specifically replaces an item for you (like you get free air filters, or something), you are legally able to replace parts with bolt ons w/o voiding your warranty. If you modify existing parts, however, like by getting a port and polish job done, you can kiss your warranty goodbye. Bear in mind, too, that "voiding your warranty" is kind of an amorphous threat. You will only void PART of your warranty with any given mod that you do (i.e. the damaged part has to have been related to the mod that you did...like the lowering springs voiding the warranty on your shocks). According to the good folks at Honda, if they can prove that whatever you did caused the damage, they don't have to cover it. That means that you SHOULD be able to mod away without any problems. Realistically, though, some dealers will try and double dip into the financial pool and tell you that your cars warranty has been voided, taking money from both you AND Honda. I have heard all sorts of ridiculous claims to the tune of "if you put in an aftermarket radio, you will void the warranty on anything electrical in your car when you splice in wires." Realistically, though, the dealer has to prove that your mod is responsible for any damage that they may find, if they refuse to repair it under your warranty. This can be a problem for you, however, if you don't know enough about cars to argue that "backpressure" problems from your free flowing catback didn't cause your complete engine failure, for example. If you do have a problem with getting something covered under warranty, however, I would seriously consider contacting someone higher up the food chain at Honda to make sure that you are being denied warranty coverage for an appropriate reason. Sometimes when you tell your dealer you are going to contact the big boys regarding your problem, they will "mysteriously" be able to get it taken care of.
we've been pretty easy on the flames lately, everybody is just stewing till someone reports that they have a friend with a turbo... then its time for a release
i heard where ever you see a painted bolt or nut under the hood that if you scratch the paint it voids some warranty... but thats just what i heard dont take my word for it.

The dealership isn't the party that gives you your warranty. Honda, the manufacturer, is the issuer of the warranty. Basically, the dealer has to have a very good reason to do a repair under warranty as the problem must justify the cost of honoring the warranty.

my friend's got a turbo for his 2k1 civic, and i have no pics to prove it what so ever hahahaha j/k
YOUR RIGHT...AS LONG AS YOU DONT TOUCH YOUR ENGINE WITH INTERNAL MODS,TURBOS,OR NOZ, EVERYHTING IS OK. NOW, YOUR 7THGENCIVIC IS COVERD FOR EVERYTHING.BUT IF YOU GET A CAT BACK EXHAUST SYSTEM, THERE GOES YOUR EXHAUST SYSTEM WARRANTY, SAME THING FOR YOUR TIRES AND SUPENSION.
