Manual transmission play or free travel

I have new Civic EX coupe with a 5 speed manual transmission. There seems to be in my opinion too much play in the final drive. It is noticed most in city driving in 2nd or 3rd gear when the accelerator is released and re applied. I get quite a head jerk. I can also hear it engage or click or clunk when I release the clutch during shifting. Dealer says this is normal for Honda. I can rock other new manual Civics when they are in gear and the brake is released. On my car when I jack up the front on one side, put it in gear, the wheel off the ground will rock back and forth at least 1.5 inches. I see this as an issue with the final drive and am concerned about durability down the road. Does anyone else experience this problem?

Thanks, I am going for an outside opinion soon. If this is in all Hondas I think most people think the head jerk is power but on mine it is caused by the free travel. I also have an 06 Jetta manual trans. that does not exhibit the same characteristics. These two vehicles are my first manual front wheel drives. I've had loads of experience with manual transmissions otherwise.
