hey guys i was welding a carb plate onto my turbo manifold and everything was good. started teh car up next morning and my alternator is out. i had 2 drive my car home so i drove it home and the speedometer isnt working now. is that just from the alternator beeing out?all my lights and everything are working as of now. but my battery light is on in my cluster and the spedometer isnt working at all.

check for blown fuses. you are driving the car with the blown alternator or did you replace it and now your batt light is on?

drove it home with blown alternator. all fuses are good i check teh ones in my fuse box.. in my engine bay

well your batt light is on cuz the alt, you probably knew that already. check your vehicle speed sensor if there are no fuses blown, you may have damaged that.

How far was this drive home? If your alt is dead you shouldnt of made it very far... im guessing 10 minutes or so... with the lights off

yeh wasnt 2 far maybe 7 minutes.i know my alternator was out because my volt meter is only at 10 and when i ha dteh car running an dpulled of teh posotive batt terminal teh car died.

na..amaybe its ko i rdered new opne. hopefully that is teh reason teh speedometer is out also.. teh lights are on but the needle just dosent move haha..

my speedo went out when my alternator bolt snapped but that caused much more worse problems than that. I'm still leaning towards blown fuse on this one.

ok.. i check the fuses under the hood there all good. so teh only other place 2 check would be the thing you told me about? or would it be unter my sterring column?

you got to it before i did.

its ur VSS..... its fried..... i just had my VSS replaced and my car speedo/odo works perfectly (i believe its located right next to ur tranny, so you could have fried it while u were welding)

symptoms:
1. speedo doesnt work, but rmp/gas/temp works
2. ur odometer froze...it stopped recording miles
3. ur rpm fluxuates at idle, like its about to die/stall out
4. CEL code: P0500 - Vehical speed sensor manfunction

ok so i fixed teh alternator ended up being a blown fuse under my steering wheel.speedo is still out tho!!!!=(

so the only thing that is causing my speedo not 2 work is the vss fuse being blown i guess.. all lighst work. but speedo dosent move. its lights up still. but also odometer dosent move either.

i had the same problem, your going to laughe when i ask you this but do you have any type of homemade 02 simulator on your car, cuz if so it can push your 02 sensor onto the body of your car and it grounds the 02 sensor. I guess when its grounded like that it blows your alternator light which in return does not allow your spedometer or odometer to work. I had a hondatech tell me this straight in person.

i fixed teh alternator prob just the spedo andodomete prob not fixed. and yes i have a hoemade 02 simulator.
