stock radio backlighting color change?
Purchased an '05 Civic EX coupe in may. Came with aftermarket cheapo radio. Bought stock radio and storage compartment on eBay. Everything works but the back lighting and buttons light up green instead of orange. Is it possible to change or live with it? Was it green in other years?
By the way this is our first Japanese car in 13 years...enjoying it and this forum a lot!
Thanks, Steve

You may have gotten a sedan's radio or something. I happen to have a stock CD player with orange backlight. PM me if you're intrested.

yes green is sedan, orange is coupe. i would not recommend changing it yourself, the radio is very hard to open without desproying it just to change the bulb condoms. better off just changing it with a different color one.

Yeah, it sounds like you got an OEM radio from a sedan, like gearbox said. My car is a 2004 EX sedan and it has green lighting. Don't know of any way to change it through the MENU screen, though. Best bet is to get an aftermarket HU, but be careful! I had an Alpine CDA-9856 and eventually took it out. It was blue, with no way to change the colors, plus it would NOT dim with the rest of the dash lights for night driving! I couldn't stand it. Right now, I have the OEM radio in that came with the car, but I have a 2005 Special Edition Honda HU coming. Yeah, it's orange lighting (came from a coupe, like gearbox pointed out), but at least it'll dim with my dash lights...

my alpine changes its main buttons to 4 colors and other buttons to 2. i have it all amber now with the white lcd. looks sweet and i keep it in bright mode (it does dim tho), cause the rest of my dash is brighter. i cant believe how dim those stupid stock dash lights are.

Yeah, actually, the CDA-9856 DID dim, but only, like, a nano-dim, if such a thing were to exist. That means that it didn't dim worth a damn. Barely noticeable.
Personally, I love the super, super low dim of my dash at night. Very cool. Gives that solitary feeling, you know? Plus, I've never had a problem with it in the daylight, so it's all good with me...

i guess, i mean i can always turn the stock dim **** down to nothing and turn off the deck but i like to see everything and not have it washed out by streetlamps. almost all my driving is in well lit city. altho there are some sweet roads to drive with no lights. its pretty nice and sometimes i can even use my far lights.

You see, that's the difference. I live mostly out in the country, kind of the edge of our city, so street driving is of no real consequence to me. That's why I like the dimmer lights. Too much more and it would be like a flashlight in my car.
