The flat black stuff is factory sound dampening.

The lava like stuff...I don't have that in my car.

well the lava stuff is under the factory sound dampening so you know it is from the factory.

Definitely. The factory stuff is minimal. It is effective as far as it goes, but to keep weight and cost down, it doesn't go very far.

factory sound dampening material is good for factory equipment...if u add dynamat it will kill a lot of excess vibrations...

if its peeling, tear off whatever you can with your fingers. dont leave any that isnt securely and permanently attached to the car. the rest? lay that damplifier right over. remains integral to the car.

if u notice in very expensive cars, thier silent on the inside cabin. thats because most luxury cars come standard with sound dampening material. Unfortunatly our cars come with pretty crappy sound deadners in the trunk area. i currently have 22 sheets of dynamat extreme in my trunk area, we ripped out the entire interior and found a lot of that cheap rubber stuff. i just slapped the dynamat on top and rolled it out. noticed a huge difference in sound, as well as close to nothing rattles with 75dB of pressure. something to think about, but yea that rubber stuff is just really crappy sound dampening material.
