the "popping noises" sticky

i dont have popping noises, so dont close this yet......

the problem i have i think is with the bearings in the upper mount for the spring that lets the strut turn. every time i drive over a pothole or something that makes the spring/strut extend and then compress again theres a sorta loud clunk that happens.
it doesnt happen on bumps that only make the suspension compress though.. which is why im confused about it

this was referenced in the sticky but it wasnt too specific.............

i read a thread a while back about how the 2001s have a plastic ring up on the mount insead of a metal bearing and that it wears down and thats why its happening but i dunno if that true or not

so gimmie some input people, do i need to buy new mounts? new bearings?thanks

new upper mounts...the 03-05 have a bering design which i think is more efficient(i've worked on many civics so its from experience)

check the struts themselves. Bumps and loud clunks usually = blown struts

I have exact same problem!! first i thought it was my blown shocks.. but it was the rsx sway bar. so if i were you, tightened all the endlinks bolts and screw and check if the noise goes away.

ha i had the same issue, the day the shop installed my shocks and springs the noise started to happen. So its not usually blown struts.check if u have "Coil Wrap" around the bottom of your springs. That was the issue for me.

I think he's right. I had b&g 1.5 inch drop springs and they didn't have any wrapping on the bottom of the spring, but when I got my skunk2's (which had the coil wrap on em) the noise stopped. Try that....

I've recently been getting the same noise too... I think it might be my upper strut mounts... can anyone confirm if the 03-05 upper strut mounts fit an 01-02?

I have the same problem, I just installed the Tokico blues with the matching one inch drop springs, when i turn my wheel back and forth the front right spring will "pop". I went to get an alignment, and they told me i must not have installed the mount properly because when the car is jacked up you can litterally spin the spring back and forth. when I take a right turn and then go straight my car "memorizes the turn" and wonders right after going strait. and when I take a left turn and start going strait my car pulls to the left. I thought i indexed them and put it all together right. so either my mount is jacked up and i need a new one or i screwed up.

im not sure if its confirmed that its the struts yet, but you mgiht also want to check your tie rod ends for play, that will often cause a "popping" sound while turning.

i have a popping noise whenever i turn left or right, im lowered on H&R springs and for the first few months they popped but i figured it was just the springs settling in because i knew they take time to fully settle but it's been over a year now and they still pop every now and then and especially in cold weather. i guess they were just never indexed right. i've also been told that with springs, they're always gonna pop is that true or is it just b.s.?
