anybody have problem without headlight wiring harness

hey yall

ok befores ya all jump me for asking another headlight question let me testify .... i searched and searched and searched. did not find the answer i was lookin for.

ok here's my question:

i know if u upgrade ur bulbs to higher wattage bulbs they "recommend" u upgrade ur headlight wiring harness. Some ppl say you risk melting ur wires with the new higher wattage bulbs.

has ~~aaaanybody had their wires melt because they didnt have the wiring harness?

In an effort to lower the overall weight, and probably to lower cost as well, our Hondas have wires that are just big enough for the task they are required to do. A number of controls are now also multiplexed to reduce use of wires and lower weight. It is not so much about saving money as saving weight.

Now, the wires in a Honda are run with a little bit of safety margin. Not too much, but engineers always have to put in some. Now, installing a bulb with twice the wattage equals you pulling more current through the wires. Pull too much, and the wires get hot, blow a fuse, or worse, melt. When a company says to run a new wire harness, they are covering thier ars and saying, you fry it, you bought it.

I have seen two guys with Hondas that melted stuff. One melted the reflector, the other melted a harness. Both were costly to fix. The simple solution is to keep with a more normal wattage bulb, or buy HID's. The involved one is to have a custom harness made/bought.
