what gauge wire for power?

before i start i will just say that i DID search for this, but came up with nothing useful.

I want to "upgrade" my sound system, and want to know what gauge wire i will need for my 12volt source if im running 800watt power-amp/subwoofer.

right now im runing 2 12"subs, 300watts a piece, with one 300watt power amp. But i want to switch it to one 10", 800watt sub - with an 800 watt power amp. - the wire im using now is 8 gauge

help is appreciated

if you're gonna bump it up to 800 actual continous watts, then go with 4ga. its better to have headroom for future upgrading.

yup, never hurts to go bigger, if its 800 rms, than yes you defenatly need 4 gauge wire, if its only 800 max, than the 8 gauge would be good enough, but your better off getting the 4 gauge

It all depends if it is 800 rms or 800 max..
But it never can hurt to put a bigger wire, but it isnt necessary if it is 800 max.
