Amp Rack Back of Rear Seats in Sedan
Amp Rack Back of Rear Seats in Sedan
Just curious if anyone here mounted their amps to the back side of the 60/40 split rear seats of their Civics and have any pics of it?

I mounted my Amp on the 60 side of the back seat. It worked better than I expected, sorry I don't have any pics yet. All I did was remove the rear seat backs (There are 3 10mm bolts i think). I found a piece of 3/4 inch plywood approximately 14x9 inches, you can slide that into the back off the seat once you unzip the two sides. Slide it in through the side of the seat between the metal rails. It may be tough to get it through but it is possible. Once it is in, I secured the board to the seat with these brackets that are used to hold wire shelving to the wall. Once that is in, I put the amp on the back of the seat, slit holes in the carpet for the amp mounting holes. Then ran 2" bolts into each hole, with lock washers on the back. You will need washers below the amp mounting holes to keep it level. It works very well, very solid, I'll try to post some pics.

I've got my Rockford 500.1 and a pos Orion 4Ch and a 1 farad cap in the back of my back seats.. works very well but you have to be careful with putting the seats back... it's a tight fit..
neoretromax,
Currently that is where my amps are (not sure if yours are on your sub box or not) But I took my car in a car audio shop to get them to give me suggestions on what I can do to improve my system =) and they suggested to help prevent theft and easy access to the amps to mount them to the back of the seats. Plus it does make it easier if for some reason I have to remove the sub box for trunk space. I purchased a small Kicker 4 channel amp to replace my 2 channel HiFonics Hawk amp that are powering the door speakers at the moment.
When I go to mount it I'm thinking of building an amp rack on back of the seat not sure if I'd be able to fit both if not might leave the Kenwood KAC-646 amp on the sub box and but the Kicker amp on the 60 side of the seat so if I remove the box I won't lose the door speaker sound.
But time will tell Waiting for the warm weather to arrive
Current System:
Rockford Fosgate 9300 HU
Kenwood KAC-646 2X150W Amp for 2 10" Pioneer 350W Subs Running in Stereo (not 2 Ohm Stable) =(
HiFonics Hawk 2X45W for Pioneer Premier 160W 3-Way 6.5 in the doors
Stock Rear Speakers powered by the HU
Upgrading:
Kicker IX404 4-Channel 4X40 Amp going to Doors and Rear Deck Speakers (replacing HiFonics Amp)
Replace Rear Deck with some type of Coxials (haven't decided yet might go with a Pioneer Premier set)

I have my MTX 6304 mounted on the 60 side, it fits very well, with enough room for a 1.0 farad cap, i wanted to put a 2 channel on the other side but i will have to see what fits.
hot air rises...wen vertical wont tha heatsink not function well? if itz pointed down and it pushes tha air out, wont tha hot air jus go back up tha amp? i gotz no hard factz 2 prove but i read a long time ago and thot it wuz kinda common sense. all mi friendz mount theirz on tha back, and so far i havent seen ne short term damage...
the only prob i'm aware of is when you mount amps bottom up, then the heat just goes back into the amp, other than that, vertical amps don't pose a problem. I always have the 60/40 seats down anyway when i turn it up all the way to get more airflow. And if you mounted the amps on the back of the seat, they would be sitting at a slight angle when seats are up which is why i didn't put them there.
