trunk rattling
so now that i have my stereo, i knew that my liscence plate was going to rattle, so i took some foam padding and stuck it all around the liscence plate. but now it seems that something in im trunk is rattling
, you can only hear it from the outside. anyone else have this problem...what do i do to make it stop?

Check your spare tire/ acces in the storage. something could be loose, like you didnt clamp your jack tight enough or u didnt lock your spare in place. i dunno just check for stuff that'd you'd usually take out of ur trunk and that needs to be locked up.

so it sounds like its just minor stuff then, nothng like i was thinking would jave to be done, like dynamatting the entire trunk, i just need to check for loose connections and make sure everything is tightened then....thanks alot.
Depends on what speakers you have in the packing shelf. I had to dyna my packing shelf because of a very annoying rattle you can hear from the outside right where the quater panel meets the glass

o...maybe thats what it is....in my rear deck i just have some cheap pioneers (still better than stock) and for subs i have two sony 12's with around 360 watts to each.
Yeah then more than likely it is your packing shelf with the noise. I would actually try to take care of all of the minor things before you go to the extento of dynaing the packing shelf. Just to be safe.
My whole entire trunk is sound deadened, all the tools and stuff in the spare tire well are wrapped in soft material and taped (no rattles from them). Every precaution was taken to eliminate all rattles, but still some exist under certain conditions. The deck lid moves up and down under heavy bass and it looks like it actually might move enough to slightly break the weatherstrip seal and allow a tiny bit air out. I haven't confirmed that noise is coming from here, but it's visually noticeable. I siliconed all the close metal to metal gaps before using sound deadener mat, and my trunk lid is so heavy with sound deadener, it slams shut on it's own in any position other than fully opened.
The part that I overlooked was to take care of the plastic deck lid that goes over the speakers in the back of the car (interior). It's the main thing that will rattle/buzz under extreme volume, only during certain songs that hit certain frequencies. I haven't fixed mine yet, but I will eventually. Thats the first place I'd tell you to start working.
The end point is.. it's pretty hard to have a car like ours, add bass and have zero rattles or buzzes. (and I only have 1 12, 250wrms) I give major credit to anyone that has real subs in our car and can jam it with zero rattles or buzzing.. If I ever found a car with two 12 or 13" w7's and no rattles I'd **** myself. It just ain't easy getting rid of every last rattle.

Hey A03 addjust your stricker on your decklid, this will eliminate the rattle there. If you loosen the bolts and slide it down alittle the decklid will shut tighter. Another bad rattle our cars have are the tension springs for the decklid.
civicLX, I'd suggest dynaing the top of your packing shelf, put alittle bit of dyna under the packing shelf trim this will eliminate that rattle, I posted pics of what on here in the past with that. Be sure to take care of the seatbelt housing for the center belt, its a black plastic box, put nothing in that and it will buzz like hell.

no no no , the ultimate solution , take old t shirts and shred them to smaller bits and open your trunk lid and the top of your trunk has various holes fill them with the shirts by using coat hangers it worked soo well with mine i used about 17 shirts if you want pics tell me by responding , i dont fee like uploading unless someone is interested

Want to know where the rattling is coming from, that you're hearing a lot of? Check your spoiler if you have one. No, that's not where I was gonna say, but that came to mind. Remove the carpet on the inner side wall of the trunk on the driver's side. Once it's out, you'll see the vent in there for the trunk. Tape it shut is a ghetto solution. I removed mine and glassed the opening when I owned a civic.

I have 1 12" and I have the same problem. It's not the license plate, but the latch (or whatever it's called) that keeps the trunk closed. It's the glow in the dark emergency exit thing for if a person was stuck in the trunk. The rattling seems to be coming from there. Any idea how to fix that?

You can move the latch about an inch in either direction. I wouldn't move it much, as you'll have a significant amount of trouble getting it to catch when closing. 1/8" or so down should tighten it up just right.

This is a good place to start. Written back in the days of the origins of this site, and it should have all the pics you need in it.
