It doesn't really matter as long as you are consistent, but generally the positive is marked with a stripe or different colo on the jacket. Not sure about what you mean by gold/silver - is that the wire or the jacket?

probabyl the colors of the wire.. somewires are dyed whatever color or use perhaps different metals or something. but yeah.. just make sure positive from the sub matches positive on the amp.. and same for negative.

whatever option you use, find a way to remember it, and always use it... so if you're re-connecting something that came loose, or are wiring subs inside a box and can't see the amp, or whatever, you can just look at the wire and know which it is...

i tell everyone to remember it this way: gold is positive, silver is negative, because gold is better than silver... yeah, it's dumb, but even now (8 years after i installed my first system), i remember that and have no problem identifying wires...

anyway, maybe this helps, maybe it doesn't... good luck either way

I think its the gold wire thats the ground.

The gold is usually a copper wire and copper is usually the best ground.

Don't know if this helps much.

haha... ok, i was gonna ask if this question was a joke when i first read it, but i saw everyone leaving serious answers, so i did as well... but before this gets out of hand with all the n00b comments (no offense, n00bs), all speaker wire is basically the same: 99.9% copper strands wrapped in flexible, high-temp, flame retardant, automotive grade PVC... doesn't matter if it's gold, silver, pink, or purple...

lots of companies will declare their wires/cables as "oxygen free", or try to make them sound special by saying they have extremely low capacitance or resistance or inductance or whatever... congratulations, those are simply characteristics of copper... quality brand-name wiring kits look alot better and often include much higher-quality components (distro blocks, fuse holders, etc), but as far as cable is concerned they're basically all the same...

cliff's notes: wire is wire
