thinking of buying a 2000 si, need some advice
I just drove a 2000 si, and I was wondering what you guys think of them. It is modded. DC headers, apexi exhaust, aem fuel rail, aem cai, dc strut bars. It has 84000 miles. black w/ lip kit. What do you guys think it's worth. On KBB the private party value is just over $9,000? The guy was asking $9,500. He said he was planning on trading it in today, I'm just not sure of a good price to start negotiating at. Any advice would be great. Thanks in advance.
Last time I had this much fun some furniture got broken!

Thats a half decent price, but at the same time I would rather pay less than that for a modded 00 car.
Those are the only 6th gens I would drive too... either an si with no body mods, or just a lip kit.

the problem with sellers with modded cars is that they think they can get full value for their car including full value for the mods. First off, no way is a trade in going on 7 years going to get anywhere near his asking price, so if you really want it I would start bidding at $8000 and go up to $8500 at most. But, since its modded, I wouldn't recommend buying it unless you know what you're doing when it comes to checking things like gasket seals, tie rod ends, etc. I swear if I sold my car to someone who knew nothing about mods they'd spend hundreds trying to maintain the car.
Yeah it's clean, no other body mods, it's lowered, and is sitting on 18's. not sure of the brand. I'm also not sure if it has stock struts or not. I'm really just worried about all the mods. They weren't put on by the person i'm buying it from they were put on by the previous owner. I also have to do a car fax report yet. The kid has no idea about what he has. he was saying that it was a 2001, i was like ummm yeah no it's at the latest a 2k. damn kids don't have a clue what any mods even do to his car. Also is there anything I need to look for that would be dead giveaways that it's gonna be crapping out anytime soon.

and 9500?? are you serious thats how much a 7thgen goes for. no way should an SI be more than 8000 and thats if its in decent shape. are you even sure its an si, have you checked the engine stamp and other features that an si should have... could just have the badges on it
Yeah it's an si, i was checking to make sure it just wasn't rebadged, it's a b16, has disc breaks all around. I was thinking of just telling him a ridiculously low price, like $7,000, cause there is no way he'll get that in a trade of a car that is modded like that.
Just found out that it's also been wrecked, and I asked the man if he was crazy for asking that much. So it's a no go. I did get to drive it again though and ran it pretty hard. It was pretty quick in comparison to my 7th gen ex. anyways thanks for the advice.
I wouldn't want to buy something that I know has been raced, being heavily modded, and has been wrecked before. I'm almost certain you can find a stock Si with similar mileage, so why not? Why do you want something modded? That's bad news, it just means that it was someone elses problems and it was abused.
Yeah I offered him 6,500. And gave him the explanation of it being modded and things but he said he'd come down to 8,500 and I was like no go. It was fun to drive though. haha.
