Here's what I've been up to.....Pics inside

Took about 4 hours off work to strip the head off and pull the crank out

Crank

Main Girdle and OEM pistons and rods

Turbo, manifold and downpipe

Sexy intake manifold, made by JDM Fabtech (thanks again, Gerry)

Can you say one of a kind d17 intake manifold with velocity stacks?

Wiseco piston and crower rods (4th set is in the block because I was checking clearances

Going into this...

Running on these up front (until I borrow slicks from a friend)

Block is being notched tomorrow. As soon as I get it back, it's going to the machine shop for a fresh hone and hot tanking. Once I get it back, I should have all of my new main and rod bearings in and I can complete the rebuild. Then polish it all up and put the head back on and drop it in. I'm really shooting for July 1st but we'll see how long it takes. I'll keep progress and pics coming in this thread as I go. Enjoy.

350 whp is the goal. A low 12 on dr's and a high 11 on slicks. Don't know how close I'll get but I will beat a 12.5 guaranteed.

Holy ****, when did I hit 2k posts. Damn, I never post, lol.

At the moment, no. In the future, probably. Nothing I will speak of yet. My sponsor and I are negotiating currently....

And btw, in case anyone was wondering, I am running the AEM for management.

Also, has anyone else done a full Honda engine build, THEMSELVES, not your shop? I was just wondering how many avid builders we have (the only person I know of is turboengnr...)

Oh and one last thing to caveat this post. I have seen some claims of people making decent power on d17's but thus far, the highest I have seen proof of was hector's dyno of like 250-ish whp. I know he swears he made over 300 whp but I have seen nothing to back that claim. I've also heard that Barney has supposedly broken the 300 mark also but again, there was no proof anywhere. I'm not going to make a ridiculous claim that I have hit a number without providing something to back up my claim. Anyways, I'll be glad to show once and for all that d series motors, when built properly (and even on a budget), are no joke.

I know, right? Block is being notched as we speak. I will pick it up tomorrow and bring it to the machine shop for a fresh hone and hot tank, ahhh, squeaky clean block. Unfortunately, I am sure I won't get the thing back until Monday or Tuesday, in the meantime, I'll be waiting for my bearings and plastigauge to come in. So hopefully everything will be here around the same time so I can reassemble the block and put the head back on, yada, yada.

Fun stuff, I'm excited though. I should have this thing running in no time.

What exactly is hot tanking? Is that done to clean the engine? Also isn't it not as effective anymore, since the environmentally safe chemicals are not as strong?
Just trying to make sure I have the right idea here.

Yes, it's used to clean impurities and metal shavings after completing machine work. Not sure what you mean about effectiveness, it isn't meant to really do anything but clean particles out of the block. The idea is just a good rinsing and cleaning, it doesn't really serve a purpose of stripping anything off. You can basically get the same effect using warm/hot, soapy water.

If you're talking solvent, bad idea. Solvent shouldn't be used on the inside of the block.

You dam right, still the higest with the FIRST build D17 that works!

And untill you show me yours at 350 whp with your engine working not breaking
YOU ARE NOT ALOUD TO TAKE A SHOT AT ME

Oh, and you are welcome for the information on notching the cylinder walls, the correct ARP head stud part # and the piston part #, yes, Race Enginieering use my D17 block to develop the Wiseco pistons you are so convently using now the part #was posted on this site years ago by me.

All hands on, building my own engine, doing research, even taking a step by step pictures and sharing it with you.
You should be thankfull.
