Can you say one of a kind d17 intake manifold with velocity stacks?

Wiseco piston and crower rods (4th set is in the block because I was checking clearances

Going into this...

Running on these up front (until I borrow slicks from a friend)

Block is being notched tomorrow. As soon as I get it back, it's going to the machine shop for a fresh hone and hot tanking. Once I get it back, I should have all of my new main and rod bearings in and I can complete the rebuild. Then polish it all up and put the head back on and drop it in. I'm really shooting for July 1st but we'll see how long it takes. I'll keep progress and pics coming in this thread as I go. Enjoy.

Only we can buy that particular configuration.

MajinB 05-31-2006 09:25 PM

damn, the SSM's be puttin the power down.

andyman97 05-31-2006 09:28 PM

350 whp is the goal. A low 12 on dr's and a high 11 on slicks. Don't know how close I'll get but I will beat a 12.5 guaranteed.

Holy shit, when did I hit 2k posts. Damn, I never post, lol.

goodtimes 05-31-2006 09:37 PM

Dam man nice and sexy. are you doing anything to the head???

andyman97 05-31-2006 09:40 PM

At the moment, no. In the future, probably. Nothing I will speak of yet. My sponsor and I are negotiating currently....

And btw, in case anyone was wondering, I am running the AEM for management.

Also, has anyone else done a full Honda engine build, THEMSELVES, not your shop? I was just wondering how many avid builders we have (the only person I know of is turboengnr...)

Oh and one last thing to caveat this post. I have seen some claims of people making decent power on d17's but thus far, the highest I have seen proof of was hector's dyno of like 250-ish whp. I know he swears he made over 300 whp but I have seen nothing to back that claim. I've also heard that Barney has supposedly broken the 300 mark also but again, there was no proof anywhere. I'm not going to make a ridiculous claim that I have hit a number without providing something to back up my claim. Anyways, I'll be glad to show once and for all that d series motors, when built properly (and even on a budget), are no joke.

ajhdragon 05-31-2006 09:43 PM

ive helped on a few honda engine builds, and currently working on a very slow k20 build

honda123 05-31-2006 10:39 PM

We need a dropped bomb icon for comments like this.

MajinB 05-31-2006 11:41 PM

yea i have to agree though. people are like "d17 sucks" and im like, you don't know...

eye_see_you 06-01-2006 12:19 PM

about damn time you got to working on that thing

andyman97 06-01-2006 06:22 PM

I know, right? Block is being notched as we speak. I will pick it up tomorrow and bring it to the machine shop for a fresh hone and hot tank, ahhh, squeaky clean block. Unfortunately, I am sure I won't get the thing back until Monday or Tuesday, in the meantime, I'll be waiting for my bearings and plastigauge to come in. So hopefully everything will be here around the same time so I can reassemble the block and put the head back on, yada, yada.

Fun stuff, I'm excited though. I should have this thing running in no time.

diskreet 06-01-2006 06:28 PM

What exactly is hot tanking? Is that done to clean the engine? Also isn't it not as effective anymore, since the environmentally safe chemicals are not as strong?
Just trying to make sure I have the right idea here.

xbeebop 06-01-2006 06:31 PM

awesome. can't wait to see the numbers.

Yes, it's used to clean impurities and metal shavings after completing machine work. Not sure what you mean about effectiveness, it isn't meant to really do anything but clean particles out of the block. The idea is just a good rinsing and cleaning, it doesn't really serve a purpose of stripping anything off. You can basically get the same effect using warm/hot, soapy water.

If you're talking solvent, bad idea. Solvent shouldn't be used on the inside of the block.

diskreet 06-01-2006 09:12 PM

oh ok. thanks for the clarification on the chemicals.

BERGER 06-01-2006 10:09 PM

i hope you hung up your crank and just didn't leave it on the bench like that cause they can warp.. if they're left lying down.. not sure how long it takes for them to warp but they can..

YOU ARE NOT ALOUD TO TAKE A SHOT AT ME :screwy:

Oh, and you are welcome for the information on notching the cylinder walls, the correct ARP head stud part # and the piston part #, yes, Race Enginieering use my D17 block to develop the Wiseco pistons you are so convently using now the part #was posted on this site years ago by me.

All hands on, building my own engine, doing research, even taking a step by step pictures and sharing it with you.
You should be thankfull.;)
