It rained HARD and now this happened...

Okay, so today it rained, a LOT. My car sat outside through all the rain and humidity levels here are extremely high. Two things happened when I went out to my car.

I went to disarm my alarm and got nothing. I unlocked the door with the key expecting the alarm to go off and it did, but I could BARELY hear the siren. My LED for my alarm was extremely dim. I put my key to the ON position and got nothing. Okay, I have a dead battery. But I didn't leave anything on at all. My headlights were off, my dome light was off.. everything else runs off ACC as far as my add ons are concerned.

I am an installer and I've been installing for quite some time so I know vehicle electronics extremely well. But I don't understand how I've never ever had any issues as far as getting dead batteries and whatever else. My alternator is fine, and my battery is fine.

Well, anyways I jump started my car and finally got it running. But it was running like total ****. I have an air/fuel guage in my car (don't ask why because I don't know.. I was in my 'ricer' days when i got it and never bothered to take it out) and it was reading Lean.. The car actually stopped running. I restarted it, then it started to shake at idle and sounded like it wanted to die again, then it went back to normal. It did this for probably 3-4 minutes, and then after that, it's been running fine. However, I have a Check Engine light on now. I searched and found a thread talking about if you have a CAI, then water could of possibly gotten into the engine. Well, I have the stock air box. So that shoots that idea. Any other suggestions on why this happened? The check engine light is still on by the way.

i'm betting money its a bad ground. rain/humidity makes it a whole lot worse i know. my alarm siren had this problem and it wouldnt work at all when it was raining but fine when dry. first check your grounds and battery connection to make sure its tight and free of corrosion. if you still have the stock ground wires, pm me and ill hook you up with a replacement kit. I got one left i'll give you cheap. but if that doesnt work, it could just be the battery died. It happens. My optima after 1 year just went completely dead in an hour after driving it. From being able to start the car an hour earlier to not even being able to power neons. and it also ran like crap getting to advance for a new batt.

Civ3x is an unknown quantity at this point
If you have a check engine light on that’s a clue go to any auto part store and have the code ran for free!!!

*I may just not know but I didn’t know that the check engine light had anything to do with voltage problem
*It was my understanding that all automobiles have their own indicating light (idiot light) or gauge

If it rained hard and your car was sitting out... the alarm could have been going off the whole time and it could have caused your battery to drain. Also with the humidity... all that moisture in the air could have caused your car to run like ***... Go have a shop read your CEL code.

Corrison(sp) absorbs moisture so if battery terminals or any grounds are corroded you loose contact!

yeah, if you have a bad electrical, it will only become worse in the rain. i have 100% humidity almost daily so you need to keep everything clean.
