New Intake Manifold (again)

Well, i finally took the GSR manifold off and installed the new one i built.

Thanks to MajinB, i had a very nice D16 manifold to work off of. I cut the plenum completely off, ported the runners, then built a custom plenum that is quite a bit larger than the stock one. Then i also added some studs in order to make it bolt up to the stock D17 fuel rail and made it work with the stock injectors.

I like this manifold for its simplicity. I did not install the bungs for the secondary injectors because i am still waiting on them to get here. So the entire turbo system is off right now. But it will go back on soon enough.

So yea, the GSR manifold is up for sale again. And here are the pics of my customized D16 manifold.

I was tired of the vaccum leak on the GSR manifold. And i told u guys that if i had to take it off the car to fix it, i wasnt gonna put it back on.

Once something pisses me off, i usually get rid of it.

Yea, i have a whole DIY done for the D16-D17 intake mani swap. But i just need to write it up. I already have the pics uploaded to my server. But i just need to sit down and write it out.

lol. glad uve been thinking about me Kevin.

Ive had offers for $300 for the GSR mani.

This manifold has less top end power than the GSR manifold, but more torque through the mid range. This manifold shines from 3000-6000, whereas the GSR was more like 4500-7000.

I can make that. Its easy. looks to me like whoever welded that hasnt been doing aluminum for very long.

I simply do not have the funds. You guys forget. I have no job, my shoulder is f*cked, my arm is broken, im in school full time, and my wife works at petsmart.

**** man, throw me a freakin bone!

I would like to see anyone else on this site build an intake manifold with a broken arm.

I never got the chance to weld aluminum in school. Can you only TIG aluminum or can you wire-feed weld it?

I used to own everyone at oxy welding. I was teh ****

usually aluminum is only wirefeed in mass production when weld prettiness/overall quality isnt a primary goal from what ive seen. The cost is substantial to wirefeed aluminum from what i understand it would require a spool gun to be done properly

yea, spoolguns are almost a necessity. The aluminum will bind up in the lead of most wirefeed welders. Thats why the spoolgun is needed.

I agree on the spool gun, We had a push-pull wire feeder and it still gave us hell. Id rather deal with the weight of the gun than spend half the time friggin with jammed up wire. I noticed that in the pic of that manifold that guy welded the edges of the velocity stacks together. BAD IDEA. Should have figured a way for some clearance in between as well.

lol.ok. simple write up. I dont have any pics of it, but here goes....

First. Before taking off the stock intake manifold, do the following.....

take the plug for the TPS off the sensor, and cut all of the electrical tape and wire loom off of it, all the way back to the valve cover.

Do the same for the MAP sensor plug, IAT plug, and IAC plug. you want nothing but the wires showing, cut all of the E-tape and wire loom off.

Next, you will want to take off the intake manifold

now install the new manifold after drilling the new holes, and install the throttle body.

Now run the wires to the TPS and IAC. Tape up the wires and group them together. Then take a vaccum line off the manifold, and run it to the MAP sensor (may have to run it into another larger line, then clamp it onto the sensor). Mount the sensor in a convenient location, and tape up those wires also. And for the IAT, you can run it into your new air intake and tape those wires up.
