Painting a body kit?
Im looking to paint a body kit Im about to get. Its used and comes in the civic blue and I have a satin silver civic. Should it be a diy or go see a shop? Any recommendations?

If i were you i would sand it all down and prep it and get it ready for paint and make sure it fits then take it to a shop for paint. The less work they do the less money you spend and less chance of screw up.
if you can buy the satin silver color, than just do it yourself. you'll save alotta cash. and who says you cant paint your own body kit??? as long as you have some painting experience, you can do it. go to aco hardware or a similar store and buy a paint "sprayer"
The problem is I live in an apartment and dont have a garage or anything to do it in... so I might have to spend the money and get it done at a shop...
May I can layer my tub and bathroom walls with plastic or something and do it there... That might work... Crazy idea

I've gone through and painted a handful of parts to my other cars in the parking lot of my Apartment complex before I moved- as long as you're good about putting down paper and not getting overspray all over everything you should be cool.
And as for painting it yourself- make sure you go through and add some flex agent and do some test sprays before you dedicate yourself to a coat... I've gotten stale paints from the dealer (Mitsubishi sucks!) that has been either a shade or two darker or lighter.... take a piece of plastic, metal, or whatever it is you have on hand and paint it up how you plan to do your actual kit, and compare it to the rest of your car.
But remember- prep is key!
At least this is how I've painted and re-painted my DSM 3 times so far...

You can do itg your self. I went to a local paint supply for painting my grill(plastic). I shot the **** with the guy and he explained alot. A few major things are needed to paint body kits. First is a adhesion promoter and a flexing agent for the paint so it wont crack. So it goes like this adhesion promoter, then primer, then paint mixed with flex agent then clear. Its possible but there is a reason that body shops are so pricey. Just to let you know adhesion promoter is used when painting plastic other wise it wont stick.
Im still in the process of getting the kit but thanks for the info. The whole bathroom idea was pulled from the air... But I def. want to do it myself. Ive looked up some more info and my friend has a paint shop so I might head over some evening and do it. Need the body kit first though... Thanks for the post!
