you drill holes into bottom front shock, cut off top of shock and bolt koni in on bottom. took a shop 4 hours. i think its a harder install unless you have people, knowledge, and right equiptment.

I just got done installing a set in my g/f's 01 myself. The car had to be driveable so i got someone else's blown front struts and did the hacking to them.

When you're drilling the bottom of the strut to get the fluid out, make sure you have it aimed away from you, that stuff is extremely pressurized. Make sure you find the center of the strut housing on the bottom before you drill, to make sure that the strut housing hole mounts up with the threaded hole in the bottom of the strut.

Make sure to read koni's instructions also, as well as that site listed above. I actually ended up measuruing down 50mm, instead of 40 like that site says. This way, the rubber boot covers the gap up much nicer, you will see what i'm talkin about if you do it yourself.

The rears go in just like the stockers come out.

And do it yourself, so you are 100% sure it is done right, and if there happens to be a problem, you will know exactly what it is.
I had a lift and air tools so it took me maybe 3 hours for the front and rear.

I never even needed a spring compressor for my install. I just needed basic hand tools, and a drill with some drill bits. But i also had a lift, an air compressor, and a press to use.

After you get the strut apart all you need is a hand saw drill and drill bit. don't use a pipe cutter to cut the strut yes it makes a nise even cut but it leaves an inner lip and you will have to file it down to make the strut fit. hand saw will work better. Make sure when you drill the hole at the bottom of the strut housing (where the koni gets held in place) That you get it centered or you will have some problems. Also leave a 1/4 " more than what they say in the instructions when you cut the stock strut that way the rubber dust cover that comes with the Koni will fit better. Good luck

the struts came with the housings and h&r springs. i will keep my sportlines on though. one of the housings is damaged so im going to have to use my own.

i got good news and bad news that got me really pissed off today. the bad news is that the front struts that i bought used were blown, and the good news is that i got the rear konis on. does anyone have good koni fronts?

try and see if Koni will replace them. they do have lifetime warranty. when they ask about the receipt say you missed placed it. they might just want you to send the strut to them first then they will send you the new one. also don't say you had them on lowering springs or they wont cover them http://www.koni-na.com/contact.cfm

When you cut, do you ADD 10mm or subtract 10mm from the edge of the strut to make the dust cover fit right?? Longer strut housing or shorter strut housing? 50mm or 30mm??

I did it on an 01 ex coupe, with 50mm struts, and i measured down 50mm. 45mm would actually have been perfect.

"Ohhhh yeahhh" (yellow)

I just got the Koni Sports Kit today!!

I'm looking forward to this project over the easter long weekend. My buddy and I are doing it with lender tools and his garage on my 01 Acura EL. I've never done a suspension before.. but I figure if I take my time, and not rush things I'll be just fine. I also have the Chilton's guide for the 01-04 Civics. How can I possibly go wrong?? I'm also planning on having to leave the car on stands overnight and come back the next day.. a luxury I'm afforded (just in case). I'll post some before and after shots!

Here's the tools I'm planning on needing.. if you know of any others I'll need PLZ let me know..

-Jack and jack stands
-Spring compressor
-Drill with 3mm and 14mm metal bits
-Pipe cutter and rounded file
-Air gun and compressor
-Torque wrench
-White paint marker
-Various wrenches ans screwdrivers
-Locktite

one more thing..

how do I adjust the rear shocks? I've been messing around with them since I got them and I can't figure out how they are changed.. is it just as simple as turning the cylinder or the rod? there's an adjustment **** that comes with it, but it just turns and turns.. the instructions suck.
