OK, to answer your original question. A BOV is only needed for high boost applications. As fallout stated, it's there to prevent the pressurized air from affecting the turbine when the throttle plate is closed (when off throttle between gear shifts). Why is it not necessary... well, on low boost, there isnt too much air to affect the turbine wheel. Also, if the car is equipted with a MAF sensor early in the intake track, then it only damages or worstens performance. Please ask questions if you have any. Basically, the MAF will read the amount of air going in, and if it's released, the engine will still dump the necessary fuel for that air.... but it wont compensate for the fact that that air is missing..... so not always a good thing.

but my friend asked me and i know there are alot of smart ppl on this site soo i just asked Don't trip man. There's a lot of egocentric people in here. They think they can flame you just coz they think they know a thing or two. Now other new members will be afraid to ask questions because of these guys.
BTW i know that not a lot of ppl in here are turboed. I'd like to see half of the people who flamed in that thread explain to me what the hell a BOV is. This place is so unfriendly nowadays.

If you still unclear on what a blow off valve is or how they work here is a website that does a good job explaining it.

yeah man, dont appologize because a bunch of douche bags flamed you for asking a question, but to save you from "online embarassment" (if there is such a thing) in the future, most automotive forums have a search button at the top. just type in whatever youre looking for (in this case a blow off valve) and read other threads with similar information.
