new pictures + reason for not being on here lately
i thought that i would kill 2 birds with this post.
First off.... new update! Just recieved my blockl back from Darton! heres the pic....

i just ordered the bearings, so the motor will go together soon.
but i havent been on here much this week, and wont be for another week or two. Just had the surgery on my shoulder.

It is hard to type with only 1 hand, and with a bunch of pain killers in my system.
so i may be on here periodiocally like every other day or so. I just wanted to post up some pics of my block, to show that it is FINALLY coming together

looks like you have one of those ice water wraps on there. does it consistantly keep the water flowing or do you have to manually change the water in the wrap. i have to use one for my elbow. i have major problems with mobility becasue of cutting off casts in my younger years and playing hard. i broke it 3 times and now i have fluid that builds up and i have to ice it and get it drained every so often. what kind of surgery did you have to have???

it is a unit that uses R134-a refrigerant to cool down the water to 40*f and constantly keeps it flowing. Its just used to keep inflamation to a minimum.
I haad to have parts rebuilt. They were damaged in a work accident. I have a vid of the whole surgery with a commentary, and a bunch of pictures, but i do not think this is the place to post them

thanks for the kind words guys!
yea, i lost weight too. i am 5'9 118 lbs now.
I think i am going to go with a different block guard. One that allows for more coolant flow.

as for the block guard, im lookng into one, ive seen people just line up the head gasket on it then mark off whre the holes are in the gasket, then they drill out larger/more holes in the blockguard.

Stock bore on the sleeves? I hope they don't sink or spin man, I've heard they are notorious for that. Nevertheless, why a blockguard with it? Don't you think it'll hurt with hotspots and coolant restrictions more than it'll help?
Anyways, looks good. Take care of that shoulder man, I hope the surgery helps!

darton cannot make their MID sleeves for the D17 due to a hump in the coolant passages at the bottom of the block. Even sleeved, they said they would not recommend more than 15 psi of boost. But they told me that if i install a block guard, i would be safe to run the 30 psi i wanted for the track.
Andy, i am worried about hot spots, and thats why i think i am going to use a golden eagle style high flow block guard. their coolant passages are much larger. I only need to keep the block from walking. And these are the flanged sleeves, so as long as they are installed correctly, they cannot sink. And since i had darton themselves install them, i am not worried. My buddy had his 2ZZ celica block sleeved with darton sleeves, and they sunk. But it was all installation error. That is why i had darton do the install, and not some local shop.
Dan, you need to come down here some time just to hang out. Kick back & play some games or something. Want me to call you when we start assembling my block?

thanks again for the kind words guys!
i gave out as much rep as possible today, and ill give some more out tomorrow to you all.
i really couldnt have gotten my block back at a better time. Since my wife works 60+ hours a week, i am staying at my parents house until i get some use of my arm back. But my dad is just starting to assemble the block on his small block for our 56 chevy. So he will be assembling my motor for me while i supervise and feel special.
So my block should be all together here soon.
Also i just talked with my friends here at ACT....
they just released their sprung-hub 6-puck clutches for the d-series motors! So looks like i will be getting one here shortly.

every morning hurts like crazy..... when i wake up, all the pain killers have worn off. So i have about an hour of excruciating pain until the pills kick back in. But im still going to get something done today....
im gonna try to drop the block, pistons, rods, crank, flywheel, and brank pulley off today to get some work done on it.
have to get the pistons milled to fit the rods, need to finish-hoan the block, notch the cylinders to clear the rods, and balance the whole rotating assembly.

Sorry you arre in pain dude I'm sure it will get better with time.
I ad surgery on my left knee and I was out for about 6 months.
Didn't stop me from changing a waterpump in my van.
You can slid together some of the holes on the BG.
Some spots are more beneficial than others to cut just have to check the bottom of the head and see how it lines up with the BG holes.
My block ended up looking like this:

Not so pretty but is working fine.
Also make sure that the top of the block get's check for warpage after every machine job.
Some times they put so much pressure when installing slevees.
