leave a note on her car, and attach a balloon to the windshield wiper.
Roses, dont forget those. trail em and attach a word to each of em spelling out a sentence or what have you; be romantic.
cook a really nice dinner instead of going out to eat.
bake an awesome cake or any other valentine's desserts.
make something out of sentimental value. for example: during last year's valentine's day, i used an empty bottle of Captain Morgan's rum and cleaned it and left it in water so all the seals and glue came off, and i polished it. i filled the bottle up with 24 notes as to why i love her (24 for the months we've been together and captain morgan's because that was the first bottle of alcohol we shared). i wrapped ribbons around it and presented it with a box of Godiva chocolates (seasons sale for 14.95...which is a deal for godiva). point is, sentiment rocks and is sure to please. maximize thought over cash and in the end, you'll whip out something much better.
i think valentine's day is exceptional to overdo things all lovey-dovey and be less manly than you otherwise would not.
ps. it's also singles awareness day, so some other ideas would be clubbing, a strip club, partying up with some doobie, final destination 3, or just sit on the computer refreshing the 7thgencivic.com page every 10 minutes, LOL

No set plans.
If you treat your girl good every day, and V-day comes around and you don't, you're a bad guy.
If you treat your girl like crap every day, and V-day comes around, and you do something sweet, you're a good guy.
I showed my wife the irony in these truths and she got to see how weird her point of view was, so she appreciates every day more.
For V-day we'll probably go out to Red Lobster or something. Nothing super sweet, nothing major, just sit down and talk, maybe go for a walk somewhere.

Red Lobster w/o a kid would be a great treat for her. Any more than that, and that borders on "giving your nuts to her in a jar".

Take the time and actually study your girl... watch her mannerisms, look at some of the items she uses every day, take note of her favorites. If you take the time to really figure out what she likes, then she'll appreciate a store bought gift because you know her tastes... DO NOT run into WalMart on the 13th and buy just any old generic thing that's left on the shelf. She'll thank you for it, but if you go and get her a box of candy and she's allergic to half of it... you might not be getting any later on... or at least not like you would be if you bought her something she'd really really like.
On a side note... handmade gifts are good... providing your girl isn't one who only wants high-end, expensive gifts. Most women would find your artistic efforts to be extremely cute and will adore you that much more if it's obvious it took some time, energy, and creativity.
Basically...whatever you decide to do... the day doesn't have to be the stuff of fairy tales.... just show her that you love her... and if you're like Jarrod and show her that every day... then going a little "extra lovey" isn't going to kill you... she'll just love and appreciate you that much more.
